Loose wheel or maybe a loose or bad tie rod end, or the bolts that hold the rack in place are loose.

I's tough without really hearing the noise to pin it down.

If this happens while the car is stationary, it may be the original steering hose.

Does it sound/feel like a series of little pops?

There is a TSB to replace the hose and eliminate this.

Default There is a TSB

The noise is front the power steering hose. It is to narrow. The dealer will replace the hose for free.
