Roofing company + Nail in tire = What would U do?
I have a daily driver (08 z-51) - And, my 2 neighbors across the street both got their roofs replaced by the same company at the same time. Now I cannot PROOVE that this is where it came from - But, there is a roofing nail (Not another kindo of nail) - in my rear right tire. Found it 1 week after by noticing my tire pressure kept falling slowly (When checking guages).
Discount tire patches and plugs tires for free so I am not out any money - Just time.
But, discount tire does not have Nitrogen - And, that costs $26 at the dealership to fill-up. So, my question is: What would you do:
1. - Nothing - Not worth the energy.
2. - Call the roofing Co and let them know what happened.
3. - Find the roofers truck and put a nail in his.
Just curious.
I am doing option #1.

I would call. All they can say is yes or no. If no, then you're only out 10 minutes. If they will do something, what do you want for them to do?
Either way, you'll find out if you or your neighbors should ever use them again.

It would be very expensive for CSI to do an analysis to see if that particular nail was from that roofing company. Seriously, you have to just chalk it up, as would I.

this stuff is a fact of life when there is ANY construction going on. i just did a 600sf addtion to my garage and would do a "nail check" often - every day. i had nails EVERYWHERE, still can't figure how/why on some of the finds. anyone reading, next time anyone near you has any kind of construction work done, i'd do a "nail search" every day within 300 feet in both directions. it only takes a few.
i hate it when this happens.

Air is free, $26 for Nitrogen? The day I spend $26 to fill my tires someone please smack me.
Your nail in your tire did probably come from one of your neighbors getting their roof redone. Like you said though you can't prove which one. It would be hard enough to try and prove it wasn't just a coincidence. Someone would argue the roofing nail could have came from anywhere.

No way you could blame them. You could have been behind a truck that dropped one. Most likely a coincidence

First of all, you cant prove who's nail it is...Why would anyone in their right mind pay for nitrogen when air was free that last time I checked...suck it up and move on...Youd did get a free fix didnt you?

And if you want to put nitrogen in your tires then good for you. Some think I'm crazy to own a C6 I don't drive as a DD. My choice.
I have a compressor in my garage, I take air out from winter to summer and add from summer to winter. (cold air = lower pressure) I only have the cheap stuff that I breath, pity me.

No way to prove, so just chalk it up as fate. Forget about the nitrogen - it is NOT worth it. I can get it for free but I never bother with it.
There are more important things to stress over, so I agree with your choice of #1.

Car came with Nitrogen from factory - So, though I was supposed to run it for the type of tires, etc...????? Who knew?
I have no problem with regular air -I thought the nitrogen was in there for some sort of reason - No biggie.

Why fill your tires with nitrogen?
it eliminates moisture, and it replaces skinny oxygen molecules with fat nitrogen molecules. This reduces the rate at which compressed gas diffuses through porous tire walls. Probably beneficial to those who never check their pressure.
the tire filled with nitrogen retains optimal pressure longer, leading to more uniform tire wear and better gas mileage.
Remember, if you tire gets a bit low, you just don't just go to the gas station and fill up with air, you need nitrogen and again, that will cost you! you can just top it off with air, but you are defeating the purpose of nitrogen by diluting the mixture.
Is it worth it....not in my opinion.
