I don't disagree with those who went with the Optima Red Top. It's a fine battery. I chose to go with the Yellow Top because a deep discharge will not inflict the permanent capacity damage it would to a Red Top and all other non-deep-discharge batteries. As a rule of thumb, they will lose 10% of their storage capacities (and useful lives) every time they are completely discharged. You decide.

I replaced the OEM battery in my C5Z with an Optima Red Top because, in the C5Z, the battery sat directly over the computer: Any battery overflow could spill directly onto the computer and ZAP!. The Optima wouldn't do this, being a sealed glass mat battery.
Having the battery in the back of the car obviates the need for that now.

OK, just an update, I went with the AC Delco Professional series. Great warranty, and I got it for a great price.
Just FYI, it was REALLY difficult to find a replacement at Costco, Pep Boys, Autozone or even Walmart. NO ONE had the correct battery..

Still have original battery @59 mos & 43.3k miles; will buy new battery in Spring.
After I posted the above, I decided to get a new battery so the vette would e ready for a run on a nice day and so I wouldn't have to wait until Spring.
I removed the old battery and went to Autozone where I bought an 8 year Duralast battery with more cold cranking amps than the original AC Delco. I took the black beast out for a high speed run yesterday.

Odyssey
I'm going to put an Odyssey PC1200MJT in mine next week, if the hold down strap works. I'll make a separate post then. I searched and searched and could not find a regular C6 2006+ that had actually installed one, but the battery seems bulletproof.

What about Interestate batteries like the Megatron?
You can also get Optima batteries at Costco but I think they are still expensive at $140.

I stayed away from traditional lead/acid battery because even at its best, it will vent its sulfuric fume onto the surrounding areas and corrodes electrical contacts and everything that comes into contact. My personnel testimony - 1999 purchased Optima Yellow Top still using on my wife's DD, last year - replaced Red Top after 7 years with Yellow Top in my daughter's DD. I have good service with my Odyssey in my 1990 Yamaha FZR1000; so I put the same in my C6 - not cheap but it is Mil-Spec.! I keep my body weight in check because I AM concern with battery weight lol!

I'd recommend a Delco Professional series. Compared to other flooded lead/acid designs they don't seep acid due to their superior venting system. The Optima is a good battery but too heavy for me to use in a sports car.

For that matter is this a difficult task to install any battery into a Corvette? Then I would think the smallest would be best so it fits and gives you space to work with. What brand would that be?
