Every car I ever owned had been practical. I live in a modest home in a middle class neighborhood. I am a quiet person and dress modestly.
For once in my life, I wanted to own something special that few others have. I bought my Corvette. My co-workers were shocked when I drove my C6 to work the first time.

For the next six years I dreamed of what could have been. I was told time and time again that it was just not practical. In 2008 I deployed for 5 months to the Middle East, and when i came home my wife gave me a card. In it was a very simple "Congrats" saying on the front and a hand made Corvette "key ring". I looked at her, with a questioned expression, and she said that she felt bad about ever saying "No" and wanted me to get what would make me happy. Keep in mind that I'm a grown man, but I cried like a baby.
Continuing the fast forwarding theme.... In October of 2008 I found my Vette in PA (I live in CA) and was just a bit to late to make an offer (he just put it up on eBay). I offered anyway and he said that he couldn't take off of ebay but, that that if I won he'd be happy. I won (and got it for $500 less than what I offered )!
Long story long, I wanted one because I've always dreamed of having one.
I'm happy and living the dream....
The End

Always wanted a vette, and when I went to buy my first new car in 1960, almost had a heart attack when I saw how much the vette cost, so I bought a Corvair.
I married in 1962, and my wife said "I'll buy you a gold corvette for our 50th anniversary". It became a running joke in the family, with our kids or I asking "how much do you have saved up for my vette, in the past XX years", the reply was usually " about $2.25".
My brother-in-law's wife died from a heat attack at age 32, and in 1988, while returning from her funeral I told my wife " I hope I don't die before I get my vette", to which she replied, "then go out and buy one tomorrow, because you never know".
I immediately bought an 88, traded it in on a a 92, a 98, and now will get my 2010 next week. The only regret..... that I didn't get my first one sooner. We now look at the Corvette as our primary long distance travel car, with many 5000+mile road trips under our belts.

Well, it started out one day in 1954, when I was at Bale Chevrolet in Little Rock, Ar, with my Mom, and a white Corvette was sitting in the showroom...............................

When I was 6 years old, my family took a trip to New England to visit family and friends, and a family friend had a brand new 1977 Red Stingray. That is my first recollection of loving Vette's.
Through middle school and high school I always loved fast cars but my family was poor and we certainly couldn't afford one. I had a few "rich" friends w/ 16v VW GTI's and 5.0 Mustang GT's (225hp) and I loved riding in their "fast" cars. I had a 1981 diesel VW Rabbit that went 0-60 in 30 seconds, and I was definitely envious. I always knew I had to break the cycle in my family and be the first to graduate from college so I could live a "middle class" life and enjoy some of the trappings of financial success.
Fast forward through my college years and my love of Vette's continued to grow, but ownership was always such a distant dream. It's hard to imagine driving a Vette when you are working two jobs to pay for college and living in a 1 bedroom apartment that costs $335 per month furnished! In 1994 I graduated and soon thereafter started a career in banking. As a branch manager up in Atlanta, I convinced a local chevy dealer to let me put a 1997 C5 in my branch as a car sales promotion for a week. Let me tell you, driving that car from the dealership to my Bank only strengthened my resolve to one day own a Vette! However, since I was only making $32k/year at the time, the dream was still very distant!
As my career progressed, I always kept the dream alive but I had more imprtant priorities like buying a home, building up my savings, maxing out the 401k, etc...Having 2 beautiful children complicated things as we all know how expensive the little ones are! In August 2006, just a few weeks after my 35th birthday, the dream was finally realized when I purchased a MY 2003 Z06 with 1,200 miles from the original owner. I sold her in January 2009 and last month purchased my second Vette, a 2006 VY Z06 with 8,900 miles. It is everything the C5Z was and then some.
At the end of the day, I have always loved fast cars and the Vette was the epitome of American muscle. I realize I have been blessed to be in a position to afford to own a Z06 as a weekend cruiser, and I count my blessings each and every day. Luckily for me, I have a great wife who is very supportive, and she is extremely successful in her career. I cannot discount how important her role has been in my dream coming true!

Because in spring of '05, after my beloved '98 M3 gave it's life in saving mine (deer aviodance accident) ... and after patiently waiting for BMW to finally come out with their E93 coupes in '07 ... and waiting another year for them to address the problems with oil coolers, fuel pumps, and a few other items (which never seemed to be completely addressed) ... coupled with Forum pricing, the decision to make this my first American can purchase seemed all too easy.

It's been a dream to own one since the C4 came out when I was in high school. 24 years later, I decided it was finally time to get one. You never know what life will throw your way, and I didn't want to wake up one day late in life wishing I had owned a Vette. So I got myself a nice pre-owned '07 Z51 a year and a half ago and have loved it ever since.

retirement gift
When I turned 55 in 2008 I bought a new 08 coupe with a Museum Delivery . Ordered it on my birthday -Feb.11-the day I turned 55 and one month before I retired from a 35 year career as a shift worker in a plant that made a herbicide.
Always wanted a new one. My family talked me into it after , err, about 3 minutes.........Victory red,tan interior LT2 package with the NPP exhaust. It just rolled over 5000 miles last time out. If it had breast I would sleep with her
