Driver seat recliner lever problem! HELP?
I just picked up my new Z06, 1LZ from my dealer last week. If anyone can help with this little problem, it would save me from having to take it back to the dealer.
The seat recliner lever came off in my hand the first time I tryed to adjust the seat back position. Long story short, the splined shaft that comes out the side of the seat does not extend out far enough to allow the lever/spring clip to lock onto the shaft. I've tryed to figure out how to move the splined shaft out, but at this point to no avail.
Anyone with knowledge as to how to solve this problem, it would be appreciated.
Thanks.

If your car is that new, I would take it to the dealer. I had this happen on the passenger side. The seat has to be removed to correct the problem (I believe). When the seat is out and upside down, the alignment can be corrected. HOWEVER, if you tap the mechanism, it can break requiring the replacement of the catch/cable assembly to the tune of about $40.
If you try to do it yourself, be very careful. I did not see the interference that resulted in the breakage of mine when I tried to adjust it. I wish I had photos that would help, but the best explanation I can give is the shaft has to be rotated to a specific position before it will slide in and out.

This can be a benefit. You can set the seat back where you want it, and it can't be changed by valet parkers or anyone else. They can change the electronic settings, but you can restore those with the memory.

Make sure the plastic side panel is screwed flat to the frame. There is a boss on the plastic that is supposed to sit flat.
Also, when I changed the seat covers on my 07 vert, I found that it took a little force to get the handle to snap back onto the shaft with the clip installed on the lever. The shaft is not adjustable.

Let the dealer handle it. That is what the warranty is for.

I was amazed at what a POS the recliner levers and mechanism was in my 05. Four plus year later nothing has changed. Most people would rather have better seats than leather trim on the dash.
