defeating the e-locks
ok who has figured out how to defeat the door locks?
It is frustrating that my 2008 M6 coupe requires that i turn the engine off before i can open the door... when i have to let someone out the passenger door the door latch will not activate until the engine is off..
Safety items can be a bitch..... what r y'all doing..

When all else fails, . . .
2008 owner's manual, page 2-13.
2008 owner's manual, page 2-13.
Automatic Door Lock
Your vehicle is programmed so that, when the doors are
closed, the ignition is on and the shift lever is moved out
of PARK (P) for automatic transmissions, or when vehicle
speed becomes faster than 8 mph (13 km/h) for manual
transmissions, both doors will lock.
If someone needs to get out while the vehicle is running
or not in PARK (P), have the person use the power
door unlock switch. When the door is closed again, the
doors will lock either when your foot is removed
from the brake or the vehicle speed becomes faster
than 8 mph (13 km/h).

That was an easy answer, but it was thoughtless, because not what the OP wanted.
He wants to defeat the auto lock. Maybe, just maybe, he doesn't want a nanny.
The autolock has annoyed me also, for instance, I wanted to retrieve something I had frogotten from my garage workbench. Yes the engine was running, but the e-brake was set, and I did not need the nanny locking my doors because the engine was running and my foot was off the brake.

At the risk of providing an easy but thoughtless answer I use a Window Valet. It has a setting that will unlock the doors when the hand brake is set and the engine is running. It will also relock the doors when the hand brake is released.

my old ford sable gives you the option to defeat the auto lock nanny. I never found that option in the manual for my vette. Hmmm.... does that mean the my old sable is is some way superior to my vette? food for thought on a monday morning.

That always pizzed me off after I bought my Vette since I hate nannys, especially mandated ones.
I did think about real seriously about defeating it until Talon90 made a pretty convincing argument that the car has electric door latch, and an accidental hit of the button could open a moving car at all of the wrong moments.
And the few swinging door stories pretty much convinced me to let well enough alone.
So I suffer with the fact that I have to hit unlock before the door button will let me out.

There is no easy way out there I know of to defeat the "nanny" AND I think there is a real reason for the "nanny" in the Corvette that is unlike other cars. Because the door release button is positioned where it is, it can, and HAS BEEN hit by passenger's knees in my experience. Not a lot, but it has happened and without that nanny, going around corners at speed could become a lot more scary.
Seriously. Auto-locks have been a part of our auto history for quite some time. Have we lost the ability to UNLOCK THE DOOR??!

Yep, just hit the unlock button. Funny why people don't seem to understand that you have to actually unlock the door, just like alot of others cars on the road.
Funny too how the OP has not posted again. Hope he was not too embarassed.
