Is it a Z06??????
As of about 2 years ago i had never heard of a Z06 (always into the adrenalin of bikes and older hot rods) and as an ASE master Tech I had never worked on one either (i quit that 5 years ago and they would have still been under warranty)
When I started looking for a vette i got educated of course. Its amazing how many folks look at my car and the first thing they say is "is it a Z06?" get freakin old,,,,, i could have bought a Z06 clear but decided the auto and top where more important then 60 HP and handling i just wouldnt use but for maybe 1% while owning. Gets old hearing "is it a Z06?"
Got a Z06 i bet folks ask "is it a ZR1?" and if you got a ZR1 folks might ask "is it a Ferrari?" just on a rant

I had a guy who obviously wasnt terribly familiar with the ZR1 but knew it existed and knew it was supercharged ask me if my coupe was one once at a light....
I guess the badges (Z51 looks a little like ZR1 when looking at a 1.5 inch tall emblem from 15 feet away i suppose) and the obvious supercharger/BOV noise must have peaked his curiosity.
I also had a guy tell me I "should have bought a ZR1"....I proceeded to pull away from the light and give him just a taste of a 40 mph rolling burnout to show him I wasn't terribly hurting for the ZR1s power.

I wouldn't worry about it...the average person couldn't tell a C6 from a Z06 if you parked them side by side. If someone asks if its a Z06 just say "No...its a C6." Enjoy your car for what it is.

When I said no, the person asking would typically become visibly uninterested and that would be the end of it. If it wasn't a Z06, then it just wasn't worth striking up a conversation about it to many of the inquirers.
NEVER get "Is that a ZR1?" when I am in my Z06.
But I still do get "Is that a Z06?" when I am in my Z06.
When I answer "yes", that typically starts a whole conversation about the car, which usually ends up with, or progressing to the person making the inquiry going into: "I used to have a this, that, or the other, 60s or 70s muscle car. Whatever you do, don't get rid of it."
Among many, Z06 is arguably the most famous of the C6 lineup.
People have heard of it, and many know what it is. Those who don't, having never seen a Z06 up close, ask if that's what it is.

Used to get that all the time when I had my Coupe. "Is that a Z06?", "Is that the new Z06?", "Is that the 505hp one?"

So that's why you bought a ZO6.

I have fun with that one myself.. the other day, at the bike store.. a guy peered out the window and asked "is that a z06"... I said.. with a sad face "no.... the dealer said I was too old to own one... they would not sell me one".......... blank stare........LOL

Not quite.
But it is a side benefit of owning a car which many people are at least loosely familiar with, as opposed to something a bit more obscure and common to the point to where they don't feel a need to inquire about it.

If I had a dollar for every time is happened to me I would have a second Vette....and every time is from a person that doesn't know the difference of course, knowlageble car folks know the difference, so most times I ask..."do you know the difference" and I get the usual "NO" ....if is a person with genuine intrest I explain, if he looks like an idiot...I just smile..... One guy asked me "can you see the speedomer on the windshield , I said no, he turned to his buddy and said...is not a Z06.

So the joke may have been on you.

I'm willing to bet 75% of the public doesn't even know what a z06 is. On the other hand, 95% know what a regular corvette is.
Had you said the z06 is arguably the most famous of the c6's to a car enthusiast, then I would have definitely agreed.

I would also agree that the Z06 has to be very popular amongst the newer Corvettes, but to the many, they can't tell the difference. It will be interesting when the GS gets out there more and people won't ask, they will automatically assume it's a Z06.

That is the whole point of the GS, is it not?

Wow, the z06 is great but let's not get delusional.

However, lets not read any more into what I said other than what I wrote.
What I said was: "Among many, Z06 is arguably the most famous of the C6 lineup."
Nothing false or "delusional" about that.
Among many, Z06 is arguably the most famous of the C6 lineup. Even using your own numbers above, 25% of the public is still "many".
"The public" is huge. The population of the world is estimated at 6.795 billion. Again, using your numbers, I doubt 95% of that group knows, or cares what a Vette is.
OTOH, if just 0.01% know what a Z06 is, well that's still many.

I took my base coupe to get an oil change at the dealer and the mechanic that was going to change it asked me if that was a Z06. Needless to say I changed my mind about oil change.
