You should have a key in the fob which you can open up the trunk (earlier C6 FOBs had a key attached) The key hole is above the rear license plate near the button to open the trunk.

I just got my C6 vert last week. I read the 480 page owners manual. I will try to remember what I read. Use your key to get into the rear hatch. Pull the cable to open the door. Place the key fob into the slot in glove box. That's about all I remember. I suspect someone that has owned their car longer than a week can add more.

Why sweat it, as the #2032 fob batteries are pretty common stock at your local hardware for about $3 or 4 buck's. They should last about 3 years or so, but if uncomfortable replace them more often. The fob's are not easy to open though, and basically need to be jumped on to close again. Just replaced my fob's 2032's and didn't need to reprogram anything.

This is correct...Traditional key inside the fob, get into the trunk, pull hatch for door (also hatch for gas), open glove box and there is a tiny little cradle (which is extremely hard to find) that supplies external power to the fob, activating the proximity sensor, allowing you to start the vehicle.

All the above is correct. The only info I can add is that when the door is opened by the pull cable, your car alarm will sound since the fob wasn't used to open the door and deactivate the alarm.

I see that your C6 is a 06. It should have a separate key, from the FOB. Only the 08, 09 and 10's have the key that is stored inside the FOB. If you don't have a key, need to visit your dealer so they can use your VIN to cut you a couple. If you have a key, there is a lock above the license plate that will open the hatchback(or trunk on a vert). On the left side you will find a cable that will open the Drivers door. Then place the dead GOB in the slot in the glove compartment to start the car, using the start button, of course.

If you've never done it, try using the key to manually open the hatch. It may require a firm twist the first time. It should get easier after you've done it a couple times.
Using the key will likely activate the alarm (VERY annoying at 2:00 am).
Also, consider making a spare key. I keep one in my wallet. About $5 at most key-making places. Use key blank B106.

Easier then that, I used to hot wire my friend's Jeep station wagon(late 50's model) using chewing gum foil wrapper wadded up and stuffed between the lugs at the back of the ignition switch. No need to pull wires or cut wires.

Hopefully the alarm stops when you put the FOB in the glovebox slot, but I've never tried it.
I suggested the spare-key-in-the-wallet because of a "dead zone" in the hatch area, where the car does not detect the FOB. If you keep your FOB in a coat or briefcase or whatever, and you put it in the hatch area, there have been reports of the car locking itself when you exit the vehicle... then, without a key or another FOB, you're locked out.
These and other issues are history when the totally-retro split-window C7 debuts with a real ignition key, manual-adjust seats, hand-crank windows, vinyl interior, 2-speaker radio, whip antenna, sealed-beam headlights, high-profile whitewalls, lever-action shocks, and your choice of a Muncie stick shift or Powerglide auto.
Ah, the good old days.

If you open the hatch with the key, the alarm will not activate.
When the door opens with the pull cable located in the left side of the hatch area, the alarm activates because the car doesn't know the fob is near by since the fob battery is dead. You can turn off the alarm when you put the fob in the glove box slot and start the car.
