Meg's Scratch X...actually works? Before & After Pic of my results
I used a cheap orbital buffer from wally world and about 30 minutes of my time. I did some reading on here though and I thought I had to be super gentle when using a buffer...well that's not totally correct, it seemed to me I needed to at least apply as much pressure as if I were just using elbow grease...although I was super careful not to put too much heat into the surface so I gave it a breather at least every 2 minutes.
My results:
What should I use for a full body go-over though? I mean the bottle of meg's here is small...

The cheap orbital does not turn fast enough to make enough heat to hurt the clear. On a rotary and kind of with porter cable with aggressive pad that is a completely different story. The problem with scratch X it's more filler then anything. The scratch's will come back over time with washing.

Your example looks a little "cheesy" which would indicate "fake" results.
It smells of "Infomertial".
Just my two cents.

I've been using the new Scratch X 2.0 on my black C5, along with a UDM polisher (similar to Porter Cable but with a bit more power) and have found this stuff does a great job of removing minor scratches and swirls. I now use this stuff instead of the other swirl remover compounds I was using before (such as Meguiar's #9, #80, and #81) I just find this stuff is much easier to work with, it buffs off way easier, so I can get it done quicker. I can do the whole car in under an hour. And no, the scratches don't come back after a few washes, as this stuff doesn't just use fillers to cover them up, it actually removes them.

Yeah... IMG]http://l.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/mesg/emoticons7/39.gif[/IMG] A lovely picture of a bottle and a description of the car as if you couldn't have typed it out.
Usually you see two distinct pictures and the readers can determine before and after on their own.
Whatever, OP is maybe just a very organized guy.

I guess I need to post crappier pictures so they don't look fake? I just used photoshop to put everything in one pic and purposefully made it a bit campy so it was interesting to look at without some huge explanation.

Aw, don't take it so hard BG (rhymes with Bowling Green). It actually looks pretty good to me. Maybe patman's advice is the way for you to go.
And please, don't take no crappy pictures. We sure as heck see enuff of those on here.

i'm with you Bob. some guys like to show their web skills (that i certainly don't have). "infomertial", are you serious? like no one has ever heard of scratch-x before . that product is talked about often on this forum. maybe Raazor is having a bad day .

I'm glad you had good results with scratch-x. I've always found it to be an inferior product that produced so-so results even after multiple applications. Beyond that it is one of the hardest products to buff back out. I did use it on large areas of cars though so that can be part of the problem. Quixx scratch remover has always been my best product for truly removing a scratch that didn't look like it would come out. Granted that gets in to wet sanding but still, better product with better results.

Anyone with a garage and a wife has had white paint on car mirrors. The paint usually comes off very easy and does not usually leave scratches. But I commend the OP for the excellent results. I started with a similar polisher and it will have fairly good results on minor scratches. Anything deep would require a more powerful random orbit polisher like the Flex or PC. Good job!

I'm not sure where everyone is getting this from, the marks on that mirror are not going to come back over time. This isn't a product marketed by Billy Mays
The 'Scratch-X' stuff is basically just a buffing compound that is non-abrasive so it does not create new scratches and swirls. When I had my black M3, I used Meguiar's 'Ultimate Compound' and 'Swirl-X' to help remove swirl marks and minor surface imperfections that occur during normal operation of a black car. I am very sure that these products do not just cover up imperfections.
Thank god my C6 is silver and I do not have to worry about that crap anymore. I'm just too much of a perfectionist when it comes to my cars, and it drove me crazy on that car. No more black cars for me ever!
