Default Is 205 Degrees Too Hot?

Just bought 07 with Z51 after selling my 02. On the highway drive home in low 70 degree weather I noticed the temp was running around 205 degrees. My 02 would have run in the 190-195 range. The C6 is a manual transmission and the C5 was an auto. I don't think that would matter, but I wanted to give the facts.

If 205 is too hot, what might be causing this? The car only has 12k miles on it.

Also, did the 07s not have an underhood light?

Thanks for your reply.

My 05 has a 160 thermo in it and it runs around 205 in heavy traffic, but 180-190 on the highway.

Our 09 runs between 195 and 210 depending on temps and in traffic around 220ish and this is normal. You can put in a 160 thermostat and get the fans set to come on sooner and you can run lower temps

Thanks for the info. I just thought the 205 was a little hot as compared to my C5. I was in no traffic on the highway and the outside temp was low 70s. If nothing is wrong with this temp reading, I'm sure I'll get use to it.

Thanks.

In LA temps my stock 07 Z51 manual runs at coolant temps of 195 - 220 depending on the speed of traffic.

Straight cruising when outside air temps are normal, I run at 192-194. Stop and go can go to 205 even higher. I have a '07, Z51/manual trans. If A/C is on, the fans will automatically stay on but shut down over 35mph (I think that's the speed), so temps can actually run cooler with A/C on because of that.
The under hood light was omitted in '07.

Are you running in 6th gear on the highway? Mine runs around 197 in 6th in most weather. Yours does not seem really out of normal range. Most seem to vary some.

The C6s will run a bit hotter because some of the C5s got a colder thermostat in them, I know my 98's manual says that the thermostat is a 177-184 unit, and most of the time my coolant temp on the highway will run around 187-190F. It'll rarely creep up to 205 unless I've been stopped in traffic a long time in the summer (although I do also have my fan settings changed via tuning)

I am pretty sure all years had an under hood light, at least my 05 does. I did not think there is a difference in the hood liner from model year to another in a C6. There is a hole cutout for the light in it.

Maybe someone with a later year can chime in on that.

And yes, 205 is normal.

No light in 07. And you may or may not have the hatch pulldown. If you have the pulldown you won't have the cool Corvette sill plates. But you do have the light in the passenger visor pointing to the gear shift which later cars don't. There are several minor changes (some mid-year) from 05 through 08.

No, not all C6s have an underhood light. It was dropped after 06.

It was very useful. It was so bright that if I looked carefully, I could just barely tell that the engine was still installed.

That is right... 205 degrees.escpecially if air is off...Take the fuel rail covers off and it will run 3-7 degrees cooler all the time.
