Default 2010 GS top speed in Car and Driver.....

... was stated as 182MPH drag limited....

I thought it was at least 189MPH if not more

As soon as you get it up there and document it past 180, show us the video.

The wide body car (GS/Z06) is slightly less aerodynamic then a base car.

Default Very Interesting.....so possibly the GS is the has the lowest top speed of all C6s?

This is a very interesting data point for those of us following the phenomena of the C6 GS. There have been those who consider this model an "engineering phenomena" and those, like me, who consider it a "marketing phenomena".

This new factoid speaks to the result of transplanting a Z06 body onto a base car with no additional hp. Now, of course, we've been regaled recently by reports of GSs showing up on dynos with more hp than the "ordinary" LS3.

Ah, well, bell curves being what they are we don't yet have enough points to construct a "GS manual trans, "hand assembled", "forged crank" LS3" hp plot.

Perhaps the "GS manual trans, "hand assembled", "forged crank" LS3" really does put out more hp? I suppose the factory "tune" on this engine could be a bit more robust. Time will tell.

In the meantime whether there is additional hp or not on the manual GS over the base manual apparently , at least by this test, it's not enough to overcome the greater bulk of the GS/Z06 body. This , by this test at least and subject to further verification, would lead one to believe that the advantage goes to the base car ( subject to the linearity or lack of it as far as additional "drag" on the GS is concerned.

Interesting.

It may be that 182 is the GM claim, cause it seems unlikely that C+D ran it up to 182.

Thank you ! ............. I just canceled my order on a 2010 because if a car can't GAR-UN-TEE 185 mph I don't want it!!

anyone agree

I hear that on the LS3 car that top speed was 192 miles per hour, maybe i am wrong.

180 MPH or 192 MPH? Doesn't matter to me, I'll never get anywhere near that speed. "She" who must be obeyed isn't happy above 75.

You planning on doing 189 Pleeze. Do you have a GS or are you going to get one?

I doubt Razor could even get his huge rig up to that Mahahah.

Anyone know the coefficient of drag for the base car and GS? If my math is right, with speeds in the 180's and cd's in the .30 range, every .01 increase in cd should cost around 2mph... Just a back of the envelope calculation, maybe some engineering types can check my math.

With a 0.286 coefficient of drag, the Coupe models are the most aerodynamic Corvettes ever - GM's official top speed claim is 190mph

The Z06's Cd is 0.34 - GM's official top speed claim is 198mph, which takes ~70hp more to achieve.

All C6s are top speed drag limited.... Don't see many Z06 or ZR1 owners with narrow-body conversions so they can increase their top speed....

Don't forget it will be slower than a regular coupe with Z51. The GS is heavier because of the bigger body panels.

At those speeds the weight difference of the cars doesn't matter

GM states the 08-09 coupe with NPP, Z51 and 6 speed manual will hit 190mph in 5th gear @6000rpm. I suspect the GS with NPP and 6 speed manual will be a few mph shy of 190 mph due to the wide body drag.

Darn! I'm not going to trade in my '06 now since the GS doesn't get up to 189. That was the deciding factor.
