Auto a bummer on the role
I have a slightly moded 2006 A6 and I can't get over feeling like it is a bit slugish on the role. I'm talking about compared to a 6 spd manual.
Although it is great at the drag strip, all the fun can't be limited to the "dig" ya dig?
I used to have a manual and it felt more explosive on a role and not to mention you felt way more in control of the car in traffic.
Anyone agree with this or have anything to add?? Moe importantly, is there a mod (aside from forced induction of any kind) that will help the pick up from highway roll like gears, etc.
This is NOT a stick vs auto thread so please lets stay on topic.
Thanks guys

I'm with ya on this. My C5 was a stick and the car seemed more responsive than my C6 auto. My other gripe is when your rolling at 30, punch it and it breaks the tires loose on the downshift. No real way to get into that low gear for a quick takeoff without tire spin. I have an A4 so no paddles.
I'm gonna do a COW tune, he tells me the car downshifts at lighter throttle settings and makes the car seem more responsive. We'll see.
Overall I did like the stick better, but the Auto definately has certain great advantages.

I got a custom tune and through me being a pain and being descriptive I got a tune that holds 1st and 2nd longer and also lighter throtle downshift. I feel that we have the advantage on the launch but on the roll I have feelings of inadequacy
I had a stick prior to this one with no mods and never took it to the track but I enjoyed it in the street(within the speed limits)
Trading it in will result in a loss so what mod can we do. Chuck says the gears will make the auto the real deal on a roll. Anyone done the in and out test to this? I would hate to throw that money into it and still feel like avoiding roll ons

Ok sir, then you floor your car on a roll with no fear of blowing the tires? It breaks traction on the downshift, great but it doesnt mean that you are faster than a stick on the roll?
On another note, who downshifts on the third honk? It starts "in gear".
Im glad Im getting some resposes on this.. Thanks guys!

If you are running someone from a roll then a downshift isn't needed, paddle into whatever gear is correct for your rolling start. With a 2.56 gear you souldn't spin in first from a 30 MPH roll.

I know what your saying man but get this at 30mph your in 1st at 4k rpms. With runflats traction is a joke even to me at 372hp. In 1st, the 1st to 2nd shift and those explosive highway downshifts.
I feel that you realy like your auto and I dont want to convince you otherwise but Im looking for a solution to my gripe, you may even decide to do the mod yourself.

I thought gears could do it but people say that the clock at the track doesnt agree that its noticably faster. I'm almost sold on the idea that it will help though. Could it be that Im desperate for a solution? People say its better for the "street". Is that the same as saying from a roll.(at speed limit and not racing)
I have bullets on and could not live with a high stall. Do they help once you are moving?

I have no performance mods on my A6.
The only time my A6 feels slow taking off from a roll ...
is when I'm using the paddles activated and the RPM's are not high enough when I hit the gas.
I've found the same results when using the standard shift when my friend let me drive his M6.
A6 or M6:
If I'm in a certain gear and let the Revs build up to "at least" 3000 RPM before nailing it, then it takes off like a rocket.
And, actually, 90% of the time, in my A6, if I do plan to nail it from a roll I don't use/activate the paddles.
I let the auto in Sport mode do it's thing and hang on
And the only time I've broke traction with my A6 is when I did a hard acceleration starting in 1st gear.
The tires spun for about a 10 feet when it shifted into 2nd, and then it was off and running.
That's my experience for what it's worth.

I'm gonna try that today. I'm gonna hulk up and nail it like you said. I see that you have an 09 which means that we are at about the same power level. Get a tune and you will see that it changes it's maners a bit on those nailings.
