Default Do you think it is worth modding my Z51 C6 (Details inside)

I have had my car 4 yrs now and I was looking to spruce it up a little so that I can keep it another 4 yrs if not more.

I was thinking of making some drastic modifications involving exterior and power and possibly interior if i am left with in my budget.

My goal is to have a relatively different car and hopefully powerful and fun enough to make it a poor mans Z06/ZR1 competitor.

Here is what I have been thinking and gotten quotes for thus far:

1. ZR1 look using Katech's fenders and quaters, spoiler
2. APR side and front splitters
3. HiTech/MTI hood or something similar
4. OZ wheels or may be Forgeline with nitto invos
5. Stoptech 380mm/355mm BBKs for the front and 345mm for the rear
6. Pfdat coilovers
7. Pfdat street swaybars front and rear
8. Stroked 427 LS3
9. Headers 1 7/8 with B&B Fusion
10. Heat shield for the interior &/ Tunnel plate
11. Pfdat harness bar
12. Spec Twin disk clutch
13. 60lb Fuel Injector
14. Fast 92mm intake

I dont know if i am forgetting something, but this seems to be the list and if i can get a better price then possibly some APSIS steering wheels and may be some new seats and shifter.

currently as it stands, its running just around 38Gs is this a reasonable price, hopefully power output would be around 550rwhp or more(I am hoping for more)

What do you guys think?

I like it. Please post up progress photos. I love when people do this. I think you've got it covered.

I would make ONE recommendation. Call Scott Main at Forgeline wheels. www.forgeline.com Tell him "Buzz" sent you. They are AWESOME to work with and have so many combinations you can use on wheels.

Nitto Invo all the way. Go 345's on the rear. They run around $385 ea.

Good luck!!!!!

You should do this ONLY if you let me test drive it when you are done!! Sounds like it is going to be an amazing machine and for what you are doing the price seems reasonable.

Default Well...

Sounds like a used ZO6, would cost less to me... and that would have a better re-sale value, as mods don't normally return on investment.

Default ah..

Truth be told, Raazor... I would love to drive your car.. it looks great. But I do know you more than likely, spend more on it, than you would ever tell... and that's ok... I would bet you are faster than the ZO6's... but.. IF you started with a ZO6... where would you be... Scarry.. huh?

The bottom line is it's not cost affective.

Should be one killer Vette when you are done, and something you would want to enjoy for many more years. It will be different, and faster than most. Good luck and keep us posted on your progress.

I'd be sawing the top off that's for sure! I planned mine from the get go. $35k for the car and $20k for the mods. I've got nothing to hide.

Who cares about the resale value, this sounds SWEET! Seems like you're doing it because it will be fun and you'll like the car more when it's done, and that sounds like a good reason to put some $$$ down for mods to me.

Lets see some pics along the way too!

Ahh nice. The "reasonable" people are now coming out of the woodwork. Buzz likes that.

Default Wow!

Hard to believe you got all that for $20,000 in mods.. Sweet. Most I am sure would have to spend more... Wide body fenders, wheels, paint, and twin turbos... that would blow over $20,000 here easy...

well if your DD it, keep in mind an accident would ruin all that work, so before you mod. it that much, make sure you wouldnt mind losing that money through resale, accident or unforeseen acts of god =p

overall great mod list though, it will be one amazing car on par with several high end cars and exotics.

I keep hearing about people say....It will hurt the re-sale, or, get a z06...Come on people! Do you just buy a vette, so that you can resale it down the road! Maybe there are people that plan on keeping it and making it something special! Anyone can go buy a used Z06 for a reasonable price, but it's still just a vette! personally, I like seeing custom vettes, as long as they are done in good taste! Get over people!!! Buy what you want, enjoy the hell out of it and who cares what it's worth down the road, as long as you get the most enjoyment out of your money!!!

I agree with Raazor .. "I would like to see it built" .. but only if someone else pays for it. I would much rather put my own money in a Z06.

Sorrrrry IMO only ... Ben, OH

I think that should be enough to keep your interest.

Are you planning anything for the trans and rear?

And your original question was:

My answer is no.

I'd put that money, and maybe a few dollars more, (money which you are going to have to set aside to repair your newly modded car when things **** up and pop anyway. I call it "The Mod Screw up Slush Fund". Its money held in "escrow" if not outright used to fix mod screw ups.) along with the current 2005 C6 and buy a real Z06.

Dumping large sums of unrecoverable mod money, amounting to nearly what the entire car is worth and which will never be seen again, and into a 5 year old car to boot,............... well just bear in mind that those encouraging you to go that route, and pointing the finger at "naysayers", well, misery loves company.

You can join that bunch who has lots of good money tied up into mods on a car which is not worth much to begin with, and which they will never see again. You'd just be the latest in a long line in here. Or you can start out fresh with something newer and better.

You asked.
