The length of this thread alone is a perfect example of how ****ed up California is and how over-lawed the entire state is.

I'm glad I don't live there anymore.

Except for the weather.

Carry on.

I agree with you but it really is not as complicated as some of these post make it sound. I did mine with one trip to the smog station and one trip the the Auto Club. It's not a big deal unless you have some odd ball problem.

I hope so, for the OP's sake.

I was amazed when I lived in CA at how low the insurance rates were but how expensive the registration costs were. I guess they have to fund the CHP somehow.

On the other hand, we aren't forbidden from pumping our own gas.

I ordered it from Maxie Price in Georgia, picked it up at the museum and drove it home to California. I paid the CA sales tax and registration to Maxie Price who forwarded it to the CA DMV, got a smog test and a AAA inspection and that was it. No DMV visit. Personal plates arrived in the mail.

did anyone tell him the reason why they inspect the car? you can have DMV inspect or AAA or the CHP they look to see of the vin matches between the door and the underhood tag and if you have a car that is older and for some reason one doesnt match the other you have to take it to the CHP office so they can lift your car to inspect for a vin stamp somewhere under you car.. it supposed to be a secret...? if all is goodthey sign off on it if not then you have some explaining to do.. like was this car chopped and put back together, stolen etc..
