Default 26,100 miles on OE Goodyears

Took my 07 C6 into my local dealer today for service.

After the service was completed, the Tech comes into the waiting room to talk to me.

Now, I have known this Tech since I purchased my car new and he is the only one that has touched it. He is a certified Corvette Technician and I trust him completely with my car.

He says, "come into the shop, I need to show you something".

What he shows me are the front tires on my car. The cords on the inside of both tires are showing.

Long story short, I ordered a set (4) of Michelin PS2's ZP's.

Price $2,000.00 out the door, which includes a 4-way Hunter alignment!!!

I knew that my tires were getting close to needing to be replaced, but did not realize that they were in such bad condition.

I am always checking the air pressure, making sure that it is at 30psi cold and check the tread for wear, but just never bothered to crawl under the car & look at the entire tire for any problems!!!

Bottom Line: CHECK THOSE TIRES!!! 26,000 miles on OE Goodyears is great, but how safe is it?

And, as you said, just exactly how good is that alignment, too! One alignment every few years may not be enuff. Or, it might...

Sounds like you have the Z51 high negative camber induced inside tire wear......whew that's a bunch of words. When you get your new tires and alignment you can minimize that recurring by having the front camber set closer to but not at 0 degrees. But if you like racing around or tracking the car then stick with stock settings but I doubt that applies to you since you got that many miles on the original tires. From what has been reported here you should be real happy with the Michelins.

guess I will take a closer look at mine. I have 25,300+ miles on my 2007 with original runflats and they have plenty of tread left front and rear. I have not checked the inside edges though. thanks for the post.

No Z51. 3lt F55. I do not race or track (just an old fart that enjoys being able to have & drive a great american sports car at age 67).

Believe me, I will definately be keeping a close check on alignment in the future!!!

You could always try turning the wheel all the way. ( right or left ) And inspect the inner tire.

I am not surprised at all, that after 26K miles, the inner tires are shot.

I check mine all the time, just to make sure an alignment is not needed.

I hear ya. Doesn't matter, specs are the same for all suspensions except Z06 and ZR1. The point is you have more negative camber than you need and can improve the longevity of your new tires by having the alignment tech set it closer to 0 degrees, like maybe -.10 instead of the usual -.45. Let us know how it all goes, I'm interested to hear.

The insides of the front tires of my 2006 Z51 wore out pretty quickly. An alignment was done, reducing the toe-out but leaving the negative camber (-.7) unchanged. Next set of tires wore much more evenly.

Nature of the beast. On my C-5 I replaced the tires at 21K with cord showing on the inside edges. When I put the new Firestone's on I took most of the negative camber out of the front to fix the inside edge wear issue. Seemed to work but sold the car 7K miles later for the C-6.

Almost 24k on my OE tires and the inner fronts are wearing but not down to the cords .. The rears actually have some tread left but the tires are so FN noisy I can't stand it..I'll be replacing mine soon.

If a car is properly aligned there is no need to align it yearly ,If a car came properly align from factory and the tires are wearing correctly......leave it alone.
What needs to be done is to check your control arm bushings yearly if you're an aggressive driver,or even if you're not, make sure they are not dried up and cracked, getting it align with bad suspension rubber is wasting money. JMO
