Need Help!!!! Fuel pump went out!!!!
Well when it rains it pours!!! Just got done fixing my overheating problem and fuel pump went out on my 2006 Corvette.
The dealer quoted me $2,700 to replace.
I'm pretty mechanically inclined so im going to do the work my self. Has anyone done this? Any tips and tricks i should know? Does anyone have step by step instructions.

Sorry to hear about your fuel pump. You're doing just what I would do. I would recommend getting yourself a set of repair manuals because I know that the fuel tanks have to be removed.......no easy task. best of luck! Also do a forum search.

My 2005 Mitchell Collision and Estimating Guide indicates you will need to remove the rear suspension/axle assembly to get to the tanks. They list r & r of the tanks as 23.1 hours and the left and right fuel pump costs are $430.38 and $473.48 (2005 prices) respectively.
I had to replace the clutch in my C5 and you will need a transmission jack and a lift. Cost me $1,800.00 labor at the dealer for the clutch. The car was 5,000 miles outside of the GM extended warranty (55,000 miles) and I was able to demonstrate that the clutch was defective. GM covered the cost of the cost of the clutch parts ($500.00) and I had to pay the labor.
I would complain to the service manager that the part was designed to last longer and it was defective. Sometimes they will go to bat for you and get GM to help.

Being a GM product you couldn't convince me it was designed to last longer.. It was defective yes, but designed to last longer, I doubt it. Another reason you as a tax payer own part of this failing company.

Mechanically inclined may not be sufficient in this case. The fuel pump in the gas tank requires the rear suspension and torque tube to be droped in order to remove the tanks. It still sounds like a job for your service department unless your more in the master mechanic catagory.

You didn't state the miles on the car but still, to have a fuel pump fail on a '06 and not have GM cover it no questions asked (goodwill for out of warrantee) is lame and unacceptable...especially for their premier sports car.
They expect you to pay almost $3k? I'd raise hell over it.
