I also would be interested. But I have an issue with the installation. I have an 05 with NAV but it did not originaly have XM. So I have read that a tech with a Tech II could set the XM port or whatever it's called to ON so that I would have the FM1/FM2 and XM1/XM2 soft keys on the NAV screen. We were unable to get the Tech II to enable the XM. In fact we could not get it to even talk with the NAV radio. It would flash the radio information and then go to another screen saying we have the wrong vehicle type. We went through this enough times that I know for a fact we had the right vehicle type. Since I have already ordered the PAL from Gene I was wondering if anyone knows the correct procedure to get the XM set to ON? Do I need an XM reciever even though I will never use it? Any help from the resident experts would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Dave

Ray,
I may be interested as well. I know you just put the current kit in the mail to me today, but this sounds easier for my Vert. I will still be happy to pay you for what you just put in the mail. I guess my questions are this: 1) Is it correct that the PAL module (the box with the GM logo) would go behind the waterfall near the XM receiver? (is there a place it will fit?); and 2) where will the IPod then reside?
Thank you for all of your research and for your efforts.

Would you be using Delphi Micro HVT terminals and appropraite connectors for this ? I was trying to find some to plug into my XM to do AUX in without cutting, but I could not find the part number for the Mating harness connector for that piece. IF you have that information please PM me.
thanks!
thanks!

quick question also- are Yazaki connectors the same as Delphi ? I have the Delphi catalogue but cannot determine the exact harness to use for this kind of project. I know it uses Micro HVT - but the one I see use a round / barrel type female terminal and they mate to a part that would be soldered into a PCB on a device.

Regarding the PAL XM installation in the convertible, while I was in Alaska, I installed an aftermarket Ipod adapter (not a PAL) in a friend's convertible. With the waterfall off, there appeared to be sufficient room between the XM receiver and waterfall to mount the PAL module directly on the XM receiver. But since I did not have the PAL module with me I could not verify it 100%. The aftermarket adapter was thinner than the PAL module and it fit easily.
I would like to ask any owners with a convertible to verify for sure that the PAL module will fit. The PAL module is 1 3/8" thick, which is the important dimension. It is approximately 5" long and 4" wide, so it is smaller than the XM receiver. I'm pretty sure that the space between the receiver and the waterfall is more than 1 3/8", so you should be able to adhere the PAL module directly to the XM receiver, just the same as it is designed to adhere to the electrical panel in the footwell area. Once adhered, the PAL module can then be removed since it is the velcro that is being adhered, not the module itself.
The best way to verify this for sure is to make something the same size as the PAL module out of cardboard or styrofoam or a book and tape it to the XM receiver to make sure there is adequate clearance for the waterfall to be set in place.
I'd like to verify this fit 100% before I can offer this for convertible owners. This is really the only convenient place I saw to mount the PAL module in the vert. If it for sure fits there, this will be a really simple installation because it is so close to the console.
Once the PAL module is installed there, the Ipod cable is long enough that you could run the cable into the console under the lid, run it alongside the passenger seat with a loose connection, or even drill a 13/16" hole in the console extension and use the grommet originally designed for the glovebox. When I had an aftermarket adapter in my Z06, I just ran the Ipod cable along the passenger seat and let it dangle until I plugged the Ipod in, then let the Ipod rest in the cup holders.
For the coupe or Z06, the PAL Ipod cable is not long enough to reach the console area, so an extension will be required as explained in the first post in this thread.

Cool. Bought a PAL, but I've not had time to install it yet. I take it this way of installing the unit wouldn't lose any functionality/sound quality? If so, I'm in!
