if you could have a gt500 convertible (2006-2009 style, not the new lima bean style) and a z06 or zr1 only, which would you prefer? just curious.

Not a legitimate question. A GT500 is no competitor for a C6 Z06 and much less a C6 ZR1.
Heck, if you made me pick between a loaded GT500 and a regualr LS3 Corvette is still go for the vette.

I may be a little biased, but I'd rather take a cab then drive a mustard-stain.
My wife heard me refer to Mustangs as "mustard stains" so much that when we passed one the other day, she said, "look, it's one of those mustard cars!"

thanks for the great responses. i'm sorry i wasn't more clear. i mean a z06 AND a gt500 OR only a zr1. does that change your answer? i'm asking simply because i am weighing some options. a katech modified z06 does sound very yummy.....

I traded in my vortech C6 for an 09 GT500. I needed the back seats, but other than that I an so happy with the new shelby. The interior room is much better, the drivers seat is WAY better and more supportive. The power is there, but the handling is the problem. The ford racing handling kit should help that and a pulley, cai and tune will make is zoom just like my vette. Im not looking back, but I cant say that when I see a hot C6 on the roads I get a little jealous.

Still the same answer for me....I'd take my regular C6 over a GT500.
If I could only have one car I'd go for the GT500 simply because I have a wife and a son and no place to squeeze my son in if I only had the vette.

I believe he is saying if you could get a Z06 AND GT500 or get just a ZR1. If he gets the Z06/GT500, that's two cars. If he gets the ZR1, that's only one car. That's the way I read it anyway.

I'd go with the GT500 Vert + Z06. Sure, it would be great to have a true supercar, but I think I'd miss not being able to drive something with the top off. And the Z06 performance level is so high that it would meet most of my speed cravings. Plus, you'd have a car you can take a couple of people along with you.

great responses so far. i do have a child, so the back seat would help. i also have a sonata for getting around town. my big problem is whether the zr1 is worth the money over a z06. i know the zr1 is a FANTASTIC car, but for almost half the price, the z06 is pretty sweet too. plus i can mod it later. decisions, decisions....
fyi, this is not something happening in the near future. i'm just using this economy to plan for a major move in the next year. a major HORSEPOWER move that is!!

The ZR1 may not be with us for very long, so to own one would be incredible. (read: collectible)
If you want practicallity and performance on a "budget". It would be very very hard to argue against a Z06.

how about the z06 and ctsv, it's faster than the gt500 and probably handles better(haven't had the opportunity to drive one yet, but did lap the 'ring in under 8 min) if you need a backseat and can swap pulley if ya want more hp?
