MN6 to a A6 -- Any regrets?
I am looking for another vette, I want a Z51. I can't decide on the auto or the MN6. All of my other vettes / cobras etc have been MN6.
I think the A6's are just as quick or real close with the Z51 anyway to the MN6's.
Any of you guys go from a stick to auto? Thoughts?

driven both and had alot of hotrods. Never been a manual guy,,,,,the auto is as quick if not quicker and with the auto you get a little free hands for the lady or an ice cold beverage

Thanks, I am not looking to that this one to the track so it might be a good option for me. I still think the Z51 is the way to go. Thanks for the input!

It's a sports car...Get a MN6, unless...you have a physical issue with changing gears! I will always have a stick in my vette until or unless I can't change gears, then I will get the auto. For those that have auto's because they "don't feel like changing gears", just have vettes for their egos! Real sports car guys like to drive their cars, not have their cars drive them!!!! I had sticks for my first two cars (not vettes) then switched to autos. I have not had a chance to drive the 08+ Vette MN6, although I'd like to try one.
In general I think the lines between autos/manuals are blurring. Auto's have paddles and smarter shift patterns; manuals get launch control and lighter clutches. Some people get passionate about this but the transmission didn't factor in my last purchase; I would of been happy with either since my vette is a weekend toy. I think the manual is more fun - for the first hour or until the first traffic jam - then I like the auto.
Compared to my M45 sedan, the Vette A6 is not as aggressive on downshifts or holding gears. It also doesn't seem to factor cornering force (yaw?) into the downshifts as much. Even in "sport" mode it obviously favors gas mileage over sport (hence all the A6 tuner adds) but the paddles give you control over that if it bugs you.
I'm happy with mine. I don't think you'll have any regrets; give the A6 a try.

I don't think there is anything similar to "lines blurring " between the two. One has a clutch and the driver is actually connected to driving the car. On the other hand the auto is a fine transmission and the people that have it love it. To the OP, a friend of mine has a C5 Z and just bought a 09 A6 but I haven't had a chance to find out how he likes it. I feel certain he would not have bought the auto if he didn't keep the Z.

I went from C5 MN6 to an A6 in my 2006 C6. I was open to either one if I could find the color I wanted inside and out with low miles. I did and it happened to be an A6. I like the A6 very much (I'm 66) but I like the MN6 also. I like the MN6 if the car has a nice set of mufflers but I don't race so that part about which is quicker don't bother me.

I got the best of both worlds my boosted C5 with a MN6 is so fun to drive and the C6 with the A6 is a great setup for a daily driver no issues in all the traffic I am in and the plus is the wifey gets to drive her own Vette

The auto may be as faster or hell even faster than the manual but I drove both and there is no way I would ever get an auto. The manual is what driving a high powered car is all about. There is nothing fun or exciting to me driving an automatic.

I was set on getting a manual when shopping for my vette. After test driving both, I got the auto. If the car is driven in traffic, you will appreciate the auto. Also, look at the fastest 1/4 mile times for the stock LS3 vettes, most of the ones in the top ten are autos.

There is absolutely no doubt the auto is consistent at the track. However this seems to lose any importance as most of us drive on the street more than the track.

I love the A6. I agonized over this decision, too. Since the Vette is my daily driver, and I sometimes drive in traffic, I am very appreciative of the auto. It's still a C6, therefore, still fun to drive

was planning on an M6 and had several m6's including my last Trans Am. went through a couple clutches at the track and destroyed the stock rear end in it. My 2007 C6 is an auto and perfect for me. I daily drive it in rush hour traffic with no worries. I will see if I regret the A6 when I start tracking the car in auto cross events. I think the paddle shifter will work fine. I will be 51 next month and still love to shift gears but hate the down time when a tranny/clutch/rear end goes boom from too much hp and 6500 rpm dumps. I will not 1/4 mile race this car so a M6 was not needed.
depends on what you are doing with the car.
