The other day a GTO pulled up next to me on the freeway and was baiting me to race. I had the top off and don't relish the cabin turbulence at 100+ mph so I opted to ignore him. Then I wondered how it would have compared, speed-wise. It sounded like he had aftermarket exhaust. Has anyone gone up against a GTO? Results??
I have a GTO that kills my stock LS2 C6 (and a few modded C5s an C6s I've lined up next to) all the way. I'm pedalling this car in the 1/4 to keep from getting tossed for no cage. The 60 ft times are a little more consistant in my C6 but it doesn't matter by the 100 ft mark...
I have a HUGE box of receipts for this one (never add them up! maybe two C5s in there). Just ignore the meats in the back and she looks like a stock little 12 second car, doesn't she?
You must be kidding. News Flash, the GTO has the same LS2 motor as the Vette. It may be a bit heavier and less aerodynamic, but figure with the T-56 and the stock 3.46 rear end, vs the 6 speed paddle shifted 6L80 with 2.56 factory gas mileage gears, I'll give you a little hint, it will be closer then you think, or you may be unpleasantly surprised.
I hate when Vette owners think that just because its a "Corvette" it cant be beaten. I'm not saying thats what your implying here, but it seems to be the norm. God didnt build your car and its not the fastest thing out there, everyone can mod a car and make it faster then a Vette, its just how much money is in your pockets.
I had over $25k in my '05 GTO in mods & FI. Car was fairly stealth from a performance aspect. Many stock C6's and Z06's got the surprise of their lives when they wanted to play.
That said though, the GTO was fun for that period in my life, I was reliving a teenage fantasy. I am on my 2nd Vette now and there is no finer made american sports car IMHO. I am back with the Vette's until they bury me in one.

GTO's can do all the same mods we can do.... in stock trim you shouldnt have an issue tho. If it's modded, they can level the playing field pretty quick tho. Although they are a bit heavier.
The GTO in the near lane is a customer of ours. His bets ET to date is 9.24 @ 151. Forged LS2 (364ci) and a ECS Paxton kit. Of course I think he's still only running at about 62% throttle....
it's funny how everyone here is so quick to put dowm something if it's not a vette....bottom line is you never know what's under the hood....those cars are very popular to modify and it doesn't take much to make them very fast.....

LOL many a stock vette has been surprised by a full bolt on or H/C GTO. Mine weighed 3600 pounds and made 380 at the tire.

I owned an 05, heads done, CAI (not ever cold air in that tiny hood by the way)cammed, exhaust, reprogramed m6. It was not nearly as fast as my camaros. I think the problem was the multilink to the rear end, wheel hop and lack of traction. Best thing about that car was the seats. Very cozy. Unless it is juiced it is not as fast as a c6.
So, first off, he who never owned or drove an LS2 GTO shouldn't really post about this topic.
Like other "past and present" LS2 GTO owners, I can attest that my M6 goat vs 05 M6 vette wasn't much of a difference to make me go "wow". Matter fact, the vette felt just as fast, but the notalbe difference was 80+mph where the vette seems to be pulling a little more than the Goat. Figure in the goat is 3750ish vs 3100 ish, there's your slow down, and the drag of the goat.
Mod the Goat and you'r clocking 12.5 to 12.3 (that's with headers, tune and cold air). FI it and well, anywhere from 11's to 10's.
I would suspect on a 60mph roll you would have the upper hand but, from a dig, stock for stock, closer than you think!
