Default How many of you all run OEM Tires?

I'm looking at purchasing new tires in the next month, for my 2005 Z51 and need some guidance on what to get. How many of you all have Run Flats? I know if I get a flat without runflats, I'm screwed. Right now I'm looking at the Firestone Wide Oval RFT's. l don't DD the car, but it will go on trips, thanks for your help!

I just replaced my fronts with Firestone's at 21,000 miles. I have 22,000 on it now will replace the rears with Firestone's in another 8,000 miles, I hope. I'm sticking with runflats.

Default 7000

Have 7000 on my origional Goodyear runflats. I hope they last another 20000 at least. Likely one will cost almost as much as my last 4 for my Yukon.
Well that's an incentive to not spin the tires.
I just can't imagine driving a car without a spare and not having runflats.

Just put Firestone Wide Oval RFT's on my 07 coupe after 30,000 on the original Goodyears. So far so good with the Firestones. They seem to ride a lot better and were certainly cheaper.

I got 25,000 and 30,000 out of GY run-flats on my C5 and had 10,000 on the Michelins on it at the time of my trade for the C6. Didn't notice any difference in the Michelins.

Goodyear runflats suck! Horrible traction after just a few thousand miles, short thread life, uber-expensive. Get anything but OEM tires.

I got 16,000 miles out of my supercars and hated them. Going with Nitto Invos now. Dont need run flat capability as i carry a portable compressor and tire plug kit for emergency repairs.

19,600 out of GY supercar's. Replaced with Firestone RFT's about 5,000 ago. Very smooth, quieter, and LOTS less expensive. Zero issues. Wearing very well thus far.

I replaced my Goodyear Supercar tires with the standard C6 Goodyear tires at 14,000 miles. Have 30,000 miles now and am satisfied with the switch. I'm not one of those pretend race car drivers so I don't notice any difference other than much better mileage.eddie

Kuhmo RF's on the front after 20k miles on the factory GY's. Still have the factory GY's on the rear for 30k miles, they look good for another 5k or so, then will go to Firestones....

Can't you just have a can of fix-a-flat? I remember Car and Driver saying that a Porsche actually came with it since there was no spare and non-runflat tires. I've been planning on replacing my stocks at some point and would like to get away from runflats to reduce my unsprung weight. Would hope that fix-a-flat would suffice.

Default Only because the OEMs still have tread!

I can not wait to change but my first tire change will probably be another set of RFT but not the OEMs!

Fix a flat would ruin the tire pressure sensors if it gets into them and it is a mess for the guy replacing the tire

I replaced my GY supercars with higher mileage GY runflats. The way my luck is I would end up with a flat in the middle of nowhere with my wife with me. That would not be good!

Exactly, carry a bunch of other crap in your trunk, which is already limited space, and then your problem may not be fixed by this crap and you have to call a tow truck. Picture this, Vette is already low, now you have a flat and its on the ground now. And the tow truck has to drag you level ground. Sound fun, NOT.

Now you have a towing bill, expensive body repair, a bunch of useless crap in the trunk, all for what?
Runflats are just fine. Supercars are known to have short treadwear, read the side of the tire.

If I ever wanted to 'track' my car, I'd get another set of wheels/tires for that purpose.

My Eagle F1 EMT's are great. No noise, great handleing, good tread like. I'll replace with the same tire. IMO

Does that mean you're running 2 different tire brands for the front and rear? If so wondering how that works out? I always thought it was important from a safety issue to stay with the same type of tire all the way around especially on a vette?

Just asking the question of those tire experts out there because I don't know...

I ran OEMs on my 98 and 05 and had good luck with them albeit a tad noisy. Have the original OEMs on the 07 Z and they are doing a good job. I tend to push the car a bit but the tires are holding up OK.

When they are replaced I will probably stay with what came on the car if available.

I like the security of RF tires...

If you don't mind me chiming in, I have had no problems....I drive the car hard and have 10k on the mixed brands....My plan is to eventually switch to all Firestones.

I only have 8000 miles on the car, so I still have the OEM tires. When they go I will probably go with something other than runflats. On my C5 I used Toyo T1S. Mid range as far as mileage went, about 25000 miles, but the ride and handling was great. I only had one nail in the tires for the 40K miles I had them (2 sets) and the Continental Tire kit did the trick. It has a latex tire sealant that will not ruin your TPS..
You can get it from Tire Rack a forum vendor; http://www.tirerack.com/accessories/detail.jsp?ID=38
