Default Lost Cruise Control After Parade

Had my 2007 AO Coupe in the Memorial Day Parade here in Fort Wayne. In that my water temp. got to 221 deg., I occasionally shifted to neutral & gunned the engine. The day after the parade, I noticed that my Cruise Control was not working. Thanks to this forum, I read that disconnecting the battery for 5 minutes should bring back the Cruise Control. It did. Apparently, high rpm's shuts down the Cruise Control. I don't know what else would have caused this issue.

I did not think that 221 would be of concern.

That's the car punishing you for driving it too slowly for too long

If you have a manual tranny, take a look at the clutch switch...auto, I have no clue. The cruise is totally electronic. If you have a code reader, I would pull the codes.

Useless option IMHO.

And since the fan is electric and is not run mechanically off the engine like most cars, revving it during a parade or heavy traffic won't help anything.

yea, that was my thought also. All that was doing was adding more heat.

The water pump is engine driven, and reving the engine will produce more water flow both through the engine and radiator. Radiator water flow is also factor in the cooling equation.

Water side equation radiator cooling effect
BTU rejected = 500 x gpm x (t1 water in - t2 water out)

Air side equation radiator cooling effect
BTU rejected = CFM x 1.08 x (t1 air in - t2 air out)

t in farenheit

Yoy really don't know if the water flow or air flow is causing the overheating.

Okay, but how do you dissipate the increased heat from the water? If the fans are already going as fast as they can, you would assume more water flow would dissipate more heat, but you're putting more heat into the water thats in the engine from the increased rpms. If you have a finite amount of air flow already through the radiator...

Seems like a lose/lose situation to me.

Yes air flow is fixed with electric fans. And increasing water flow will increase radiator cooloing capacity with constant airflow.
Big question is how much heat do you add by just reving the engine. Your not really producing much more horsepower with no load on the engine(just internal friction losses), so the increased water flow may actually help.
Really not sufficient data to tell. Good therotical question for friday afternoon.

I agree about the water pump.....but I don't agree with using the word "overheating".....221 degrees is perfectly acceptable on a hot day going slowly in a parade in a humid place. The OP should have been able to hear the fan clearly during the parade if it was working properly, so this would be my first question to him.

I don't do parades any more. Just to hard on the car.
