crystal red vs monterey red

Unless you parked them side by side, you'd probably never notice the difference. If you're trying to make a buying decision based on one over the other, then I think you've got other far bigger factors to worry about.

This is Monterey Red in the sun. In the sun it is very bright red metalic. In the shade or night it turns much darker with no metalic. In photos, it can be difficult to tell the difference if it is taken in the sun.

I like both, but the bright side (no pun intended) of the crystal red metallic is that it comes with the LS3 and all the other upgrades of the 08/09's

We all see things differently but I find Monterey red significantly darker than Crystal red. Magnetic Red Metallic II is my favorite Corvette red followed closely by Precision Red and Crystal Red Metallic.
These don't include CRM but here's a couple color comparison images (that frankly don't do any of the colors justice).

In this photo, Magnetic Red on the left, Crystal Red in the middle and Monterey Red on the right.
A little closer view of Crystal Red on the left and Monterey red on the right.

When I ordered my 2008 I originally had Velocity Yellow on order, that is until I saw the Crystal Red. It is such a unique and amazing color that I just had to have it.

I've seen this photo many times and this is what Monterey Red looks like on an overcast day. Note the very light shadows and lack of a strong sun reflection. Compare that my posts above and it is a completely different color. I agree the photo is accurate but only in a cloudy overcast day. In full sun the colors look much closer. All these colors look much better in person, photos never show the true metallic in the paint.

monty red
We wanted a Magnetic Red car but by the time we were ready to order, it had been replaced by Monterey Red. We have never been disappointed. We love the car and the color. The metallic tint coat makes it a chamleon looking very different in sun and shade. Of course, here we have 350 sunny days a year. Not many C6's in Tucson for whatever reason so I'm not sure I've seen Crimson Red to compare. If I have, I couldn't tell the difference when not side by side. I saw this photo when it was originally posted. It suggests both are great alternative red hues to the bright red du jour. One thing I am convinced of seeing the photo, both would look better with a black top. IMHO of course.
