stuck: no reverse on A6 transmission
I am sitting in a parking lot hoping forum can shed some light on the situation. C6 A6 vert with Z51. Driving normal then engine light comes on. Seems to be in 3 rd gear as it will not go as I press the gas pedal. Pull into parking lot to restart and hopefully reset. No go. Engine light is still on and now no reverse. Car is a daily driver with 40,742 miles on it. Any ideas?

Can't help but if you have OnStar they can give you the code(s) and description. Best of luck. Please keep us informed as I haven't heard this one before.

I'm guessing a stuck solenoid in the console. Got to go to the dealer for repair.

UPDATE: I am thinking it is electronic somehow. Shifter moved freely (not bound). I pushed the car back manually and tested forward gears again. It went through all of them so I decided to try and get it home. Everything seemed OK except for engine light so I started slow. Throttle responded normally for the first 10 miles, so I stand on the gas a couple of times to make sure shifts work and no problems. I get it home and I was going to push the car into the driveway, but I figured I would try it one more time. Reverse worked!
WTH?
Engine light is still on though. I'll lurk this post all night and read through all of your ideas and suggestions and make the call in the a.m. Thanks for the help!

Bought an Inovo 3130 code reader today. Service manuals are at home... I'll check it out tonight. Tried to hook the scanner up in the PEP Boys parking lot, but the connector doesn't look like it connects.... tried to connect for 20 minutes at lunch... Unless others know a special location for the DLC connector in a C6, or I am looking at the wrong thing...

Well...my bad, I guess it is going to be towards the center. I think there's only one port...I'll go out and look.
Dead center under the steering wheel, can't miss it really.

Here is a post from KWIKTOY on the issue:
Okay here is what the dealer fixed - Info from dealer ticket: Trouble code P1825 - Internal mode switch - Invalid range. Vehicles built before March 31, 2007 - internal mode switch (in the transmission) had to be replaced as descruibed in GM DOC#2215268,#2 in history trouble code was situation that was found in freeze frame data of tech 2 data.
They changed a "mode switch" inside the transmission, charge was $189 (in warranty).
I don't think they charged me any extra for scratching the CR@P out of my black paint with dirty shop rags when they wiped off the hood, left rear fender, and trunk. Lucky me! It actually looks like they SCRUBBED the trunk to get something off of it. It looks almost like they used sandpaper!
My Black '06 Vert went in the shop Monday morning, got it back Thursday evening, covered with dirt and scratches. Now I have to buff it out, hope I can restore the finish, and reapply coats of Zaino.

Here's one from CorvetteDoctor:
Well the P0700 code means you have a transmission internal failure. The other code the P1825 is a code for ther IMS switch or Internal Mode Switch. The switch is a lever operated switch that moves with the shifter. It tells the TCM computer what position the transmission is in.
Now to solve problem a few test must be done by somebody who knows the 6l80E Transmission. I would first check the TCM fuse for power at the fuse block in the engine compartment. Also you may want to check the wire going to the transmission from the fuse block also. I think the wire is pink with a stripe. Ifbad check the fuse block. May need a new one. I have change a lot of them for bad connections to the transmission. If good then you may have a bad IMS switch but if that is bad it can sometimes burn up some clutches in the transmission. Then the transmission will have to be rebuilt.
Take it to a good technician that knows Corvettes.

Another from CorvetteDoctor:
HI:
Try this I had a few Corvettes with this problem. Remove the wiring connector on the right rear of the transmission and reinstall. Sometimes the connection can be weak. Be careful the connector has a lock then twist.
Check the number one fuse under the hood or it might be number 3 fuse for connection I can't remember which right now. Which ever says TCM.

One from tBob:
Got the car back today after eight days (two were on the weekend when they didn’t work).
According to the ticket the IMS (not sure what that is) was Lo Hi Hi Hi in drive 6 with code P1825. They cleared the codes and tried to duplicate. According to the tsb (#1 909335) if they could not duplicate they had to call engineers at GM. They talked to two engineers (James Brewer and Jason Ditman) who told them to replace the laced IMS and the transmission control module and solenoid valve. They replaced all and tested the car to satisfaction.
I picked up the car today and have driven about 40 miles highway and city. The trans is working great, actually better than it ever has. Makes me wonder if there was always something wrong that finally just gave up.
Here is a list of the parts replaced per the receipt:
K6562 solinoid vale and transmission control module asm.
24224216 f-switch
24238968 valve
24236934 f-plate kit
24224781 gasket
24239878 f-sleeve
88862155 trans fluid
