Never mind the wide fenders, bigger wheels & tires, bigger brakes, and dry sump oil system on the 6 speeds that the GS will carry.

I think everyone has been reading the press realease incorrectly... it says it'll replace the Z51 as the highest performing coupe/vert. It does not say that it will replace the Z51 option.

From the press release.........
Chevy is bringing back the Corvette Grand Sport, and unlike the one offered at the end of the C4's run in the mid-Nineties, this one sports a long list of performance upgrades that would make even Zora Arkus-Duntov proud. Rather than treating this revival as a special model with a limited run, Chevy has decided to ditch the Z51 package entirely and offer the Grand Sport that pushes the standard Vette's performance even closer to that of the Z06.

There will be NO MORE Z51 OPTION for 2010. The Z51s were/are RPOs and the best performance deal in a coupe or vert that there was. Unless the new GS is cheap, the remaining 2008/2009 Z51s will be more sought after now. And as far as a badge goes, the Z51s are definitely worthy of a nice one.

Now I should be able to finish my wide body without spending all that money for CF front quarters

I'll be sorry to see the Z51 deleted as a stand alone option. It was a bargain for what GM put in the package, and having to buy the whole GS package seems like overkill to me. I'm not sure everyone will want to spend the extra bucks for side gills, fender stripes, and the wide body treatment in order to get the handling upgrades.
I just hope they don't decide to do something similar with the F55 and leave us with just the base suspension setup as the only available regular C6 package.
