Default What year corvette to get.. 20K to spend?

I am looking to buy my first corvette.. I am looking used because I have only about 20K to spend. I was wondering what the best model years would be to check out? what's the most I can get for my money?

also, would the better deals be had usually by buying a preowned from a dealer or just buying from a private party?

A nice C5 can be had for $20k....usually better deals are found with private party, but as hungry as dealers are right now I certainly wouldn't write them off as a possibility.

For 20k you can get a very nice C5 these days... even C5 Z06s go for high teens. C6s are mid 20's for high mileage ones. Most good C6s are still low 30s.

yeah seriously, they would do anything to sell a car...a buddy of mine just bought a new 350z for 24.5k

but whatever you do, get a pre-buy inspection first, as they are the best at telling you if the cars been tampered with

just my 0.02 cents

Get a new C6 with something called a loan That way you're not out your whole 20k at once - just try to find a 0% financing deal.

I had 20k to spend also, a 10.5k loan = 23k miles z51 06 with everything
the interior alone is worth the loan...

what's the spec differences between the C5's, C5 Z06, C6 and C6 ZO6 ? plus I see some with the Z51 handling package, what's that all about..?

sorry for the newbie questions.. I am more of a Mustang guy but after watching corvettes eat mustangs alive it's time for an upgrade!!!

Wow... google all of it and read man.

C5 1997-2004 = 5th generation
C5 Z06 2001-2004 = 5th generation performance model

C6 2005 - present = 6th generation
C6 Z06 2006 - present = 6th generation performance model

Z51 is a performance hadnling packange that was offered on the C5 and C6. However, on the C6 it is more extensive with an oil cooler and a trans cooler; the C5 didn't get these.

Read up man.

I'd stay away from 00-01 c5 mn6's because of a flutter in the # 2 ring at sustained high RPM's which causes oil seepage.02-03 might work better.

so what's the best performance I can get for around 20K ? is it a better idea to look for a 2001-2004 C5 Z06 ?? or should I instead look for a C6 couple/convertbile with the LS2 ?

did the C5 Z06 engine go into the base C6 couple/convertible? I think they are both around 400hp right?

The only c6 you'd get for 20 grand is a higher mileage 05.Z06 in c5 is the higher HP of the generation.Stay away from 01's.

Yeah because 385 is so much less than 405. Most people getting C5Z06s these days mod them instantly. No reason to discount a 2001.

Not everyone mods their cars. For about the same price I'd take the 20 extra horses. Why not...?? Oh Im sorry, I see that you have the 01. I wasnt trying to offend anyone.
