I'm not as good on the C1s, but I know an awful lot of the various years. But there is a problem. The late C2's and early C3's were available with some engines that were highly under rated. The top rated hp some years was 435, but there were 430 hp (rated) engines that actually put out a lot more hp.

HP Ratings
The method of rating HP changed over the years too. It used to be measured at the flywheel with no accessories. No longer so. I don't remember when it changed, though. Somewhere in the '70s?
Edit: OK, I read the article. 1972. :-)

Ratings method did change, but it was not likely that the 500 hp claims from the 1967 427 were driven straight off the dealers floor to a dyno.

This may just be a myth. Most engines will produce more than rated horsepower when race tuned. A lot of the high HP claims were from the racing operations blueprinted engines not the showroom stock engines.
