You are correct in it hiding blemishes and swirls however it's not an easy color to match. Ask any body shop owner about that one. White can be very tricky to match.
In fact it is the ONLY color available on every year including the one 1952 show car and the one 1983 that still exists (I think all of the 1983s were white).
Just for the record there was only one 1983 Corvette. Real production started in 1984.
