It absolutely is. "Shifting" is the term Escort uses for it. Read your manual to make sure you have them turned on. They DO work!!

Well I'm going to say it one more time, the ability of the heads mounted behind the grill is definitely diminished. Just because a shop has installed electronics in high end cars it does not mean a damn thing if they did every one with mistakes.
When I say the guys over at radardetector.net know their stuff, I mean it. They have police gear and test many different configurations.
Here's just one thread I happened to see today on this exact topic.

Do what you want, but if it were me I would go right back there and ask the installed to move it to outside the grill. It could mean the difference between getting a ticket and not.
You should also take a small level and ensure that the heads are level every month or so. Just 5 degrees off could cause them not to work. When the heads are behind the grill it makes this much more difficult. LED's are pretty directional, especially when you think about 5 degrees over 1000 feet away which is what many police shoot LIDAR at.
