Gas hatch won't stay shut...need help!
OK seriously....not major, but can't drive it like this!
I guess if this is the worst thing that can happen… I’m very lucky.
So I went to the Gas station to filler-up, pushed the gas door release button, door opens, but will not stay closed…as you can see in picture below… the latch button will not pop back out.
Has anyone else had this issue?
Dealership wants 105 bucks + labor to fix…total BS
I've done the WD40 drill already
Thanks for your help!

If you can't fix it, and don't want to pay to fix it, then Duct tape may be the solution....
Seriously though, I've seen where guys have gone in through the wheel well to get to the mechanism to free it..

You may try pulling the fuse. It could be the solenoid is still energized. Also check the release button on the dash to make sure that is not stuck thus energizing the solenoid.

Mine did the same thing. Are you aware there is a manual latch on the drivers side wall of the trunk which pops it back out manually? Eventually you'll need to replace it, but for now, the latch works when you fill up.

Try this...
I had exactly the same problem with my '05 (the ONLY problem it's ever had!). It turned out to be a super-easy fix, here's how I did it...
1. Open the rear hatch (pretty easy so far, huh?)
2. Locate the little fuel door 'pull tab'
3. Just above the fuel door pull tab, grab and pull the carpeted trim inwards (toward the center of the car). This will let you actually see the fuel door release mechanism. You might have to pull and tug a bit to get it where you can see inside, but go ahead and do it... you will hurt nothing.
4. Have someone operate the elecrtrical 'fuel door opener' from inside the car... you can easily see the mechanism working.
5. Squirt just a tiny amount of WD-40 (or similar) onto the mechanism where it appears to be binding... mine was just in front of the black box thingamajig (ah, my technical memory isn't what it used to be).
6. Have someone operate the electerical fuel door opener from inside the car again... maybe several times.... If you are as lucky as I was, the mechanism will be working just fine. Mine has never stuck since!
Good luck,
Rob

Here a link to a thread that might help if none of the prior posts in this thread solve the problem.

if you have someone push the button you should hear something at the solenoid, if you do then have someone pull the manual handle back and forth while you squirt some lube into the solenoid and around where the cable is. should work it free pretty easy. good luck, paul

Melting Slicks
Exactly - no tire removal, no fender liner removal - just WD40

It's $281.00 @ the dealer to fix this part. this isn't so bad as it is the cheapest repair I have had to date. ($600 skid plate/frame, $800 BCM, ignition switch, column lock repair, $500 top bow sensor, plus $600 in rental cars during this past year, really selling on Hyundai's..Sante Fe is pretty nice..LOL) I have spent over $3000 in the past year to fix this car as it is my daily driver & I have ot have a reliable car for my job. This is is very discouraging, I must have gotten the Dr. Evil '05 edition. Man!!! I hate to answer when people ask me "How do you like your Vette?", "I LOVE it when it is running!" I have never had a more unreliable car in my life and I have had about 23 vehicles in my life. It is truly a love/hate relationship with the car @ this point, I hope this is the end of the problems... please????

Op if you can take your rear fender well down and access the button in door cap area.Remove the 15 mm nut and drop that assembly out of the wheel well.Take the outer clip off and pull back boot.If your spring is broken.I replaced mine with a harbor freight screwdriver spring that was same diameter but a spec longer than stock. My spring was broken into pieces.I reinstalled the spring a lubed it with bushing grease j had left over and reassembled and now it is as good as new.I should of taken picks but i was in a hurry today.Hope this helps.Any questions pm me.
