Click when pressing or releasing brake
Service adviser from Stonebriar Chevrolet just called. The tech looking at my 2009 1LT said that some brake solenoid in the passenger foot well makes a click when you touch or release the brake pedal and that this is normal. The adviser is going to go check another 2009 on the lot and see if he hears the noise on it.
Has anyone else with a 2009 heard a very noticeable click from the passenger foot well whenever you press or release the brake pedal? I need to know whether I learn to live with it or press the issue.
Thanks!
Karl

I have a 3LT 09 built in July of 08 and I have no such noise.
I have 2600 miles on the odometer. How many miles on yours?

"In honor of jpee"
Way long ago, that sound used to be a brake light switch. Somehow, I doubt that's the case here.

My 2009 has 194 miles on it. Brand spanking new. Adviser now talking to service manager to see what else to do.
46490: do you know if your friend just keep complaining until action was taken or did service know exactly what the issue and fix was?

I have an '06 with auto and have the clicking noise. I only notice it when the car is in park and thought that it's probably related to the safety system requiring the brake pedal to be depressed in order to take the car out of park.

One of the great advantages of growing up with loud farm equipment....I don't hear all these clicks you folks hear.....and the Bose Stereo sounds fine too (since I don't hear high ranges as well) Now if I can just put on positive spin on frequent bathroom visits.....

Mine is 2009 Z51 6 speed. Have the car back now from the dealer. Will monitor this thread a bit more before deciding if I keep complaining or learn to like it. Strange that any manufacturer would allow such a loud relay in a high dollar car. Try to enjoy the sounds of the road or engine and it keeps getting interrupted by a loud click every time it is turning the brake lights on or off... bit disappointing...
Thanks again for the replies!

I'm his friend. There is a TSB about it. Here is my original thread and Capt Steve posted the TSB.
http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c6-c...ng-brakes.html
Part came in and I'm taking the car to the dealer for the install Friday.
Mine was intermittent but it failed the "wife check" which means she asked "what is that noise". I was worried the relay would lock up causing issues.
And my service department didn't know what it was at first but researched and found the TSB. What a concept? I wish other dealers could do the same.

My 09 built Oct, 08 has the "loud" clicking brake relay. But it appears to not fall in the vin range. Only 28 cars seems to be a low # to have the relay. Will complain to dealer anyway, as it bugs me. My previous vettes didn't have the loud click. Part is $14.03 from RockAuto. Almost worth it to not take into dealer!!

Brake light relay part 12193606 was put in. Clicking is now quieter but still audible. Will live with for a while I guess...
Might try to replace myself sometime...

Checked my relay in 09 built Oct., 08. It is the new relay 12193606. But it clicks loudly IMHO. Guess glad it wasn't the bad one, it must have really been loud! Oh well. Didn't hear the relay in my 07.

Burning Brakes
The click is perfectly normal. It is the BTSI (brake-transmission safety interlock) solenoid. It prevents shifting out of park if you don't have your foot on the brake. It's a safety thing and not unique to Vettes. The sound you hear is the solenoid energizing which pushes on a pawl and allows the car to shift out of park.
If a dealer thinks this needs to be repaired, he is just fixing something that isn't broken and charging GM for the warranty work.
