I would guess that if you want a Corvette which in anyway resembles what we think a Corvette should be, now is the time to jump. I would also guess that we have seen the last ZR1 (may be replaced by a souped-up Aveo!) Why am I laughing? I must be nuts!

This is not good at all. The Government running GM.
Get ready for more CAFE and green.
Oh, and the unions have no blame or concessions. Basically this is payback for the votes.

must be so much more important....gov. seems a lot more strident with
auto industry than financials.
going to be really difficult to justify the corvette with the new guy. he's a bean-counter.
viper is dead.

Regardless of how small of a part motorsports are, the folks calling the shots are not race fans. Racing is a blue collar sport, and very homogenous (opposite of diverse?). And environmentalists HATE racing and offroad vehicles.
Good time to buy a Vette. As we were discussing today, there was at least a 20+ year hiatus between 1972 (the end of the "real" performance era) and 1990's,when HP began to come back big time.

So lets see, Give the financials hundreds of billions and then lets kill off manufacturing.
Way to go.
I hope someone with some sense steps up and takes command.
Well, I guess the majority of America is getting what they wanted when they voted. Its just upsetting. culling of the herd.

With or without all the US automakers problems the writing has been on the wall for a long time concerning HP and CAFE standards. I don't think I'm going too far out on a limb by predicting that we will not see anymore HP increases. Big V8+ cars that run on fossil fuel are either going to be outlawed by tougher CAFE standards or forced into extinction through public pressure to go green.
For good and bad, it's a new world. Times continue to change and we adapt. Eventually we will be comparing cars by voltage I guess. We will be able to buy aftermarket bolt on mods to bump our wattage output. Probably will need to buy a CD of "old" recordings of combustion engine exhaust sounds to play while you are "buzzing" down the highway in your 400V Vette.

I'm one of them.
I sure wish, though, that someone could intelligently discuss why the banks get so much more for so much less in the way of accountablility.
Double standards suck, I don't care WHO you are.

However, in the short term I think it would be disastorous to allow GM to fail and in the long term having a domestic auto industry is vital to our forming workable policies on achieving energy reform.

There is just so much under the table deals that go on. Look at AIG, they shouldnt be on the ticker anymore at the prices they are at. Plus look at the other stocks that are now under 3 bucks and by legal agreement have to be dropped by mutual funds. None of this has happened.
I guess the automakers should have given more to this campaign. Talk about losing your shirt when you vote on the wrong team.
