A problem with the auto lock/unlock setting on the keys
#21
EDIT: and again just to be clear, the passenger's side works exactly how you describe it.

Well, after going through a couple of threads on the RCDLR(thanks for bringing up that term, I would have no idea otherwise) I found that some people had problems with "passive unlocking". It seems some cars had the battery drain when using this option.
When I was originally setting up the options for my car I left it on because I assumed it meant that the car would automatically unlock when the key was within a couple of feet. WRONG. That's how the key works when that option is OFF. It seems that when passive unlocking is ON, the car amplifies that 3 or 4 feet to the full range(I'm guessing it's the same range you would have if you pressed the panic button in a parking lot looking for your car, so very far). So to anyone reading, leave that option OFF. It also explains why only the driver's door unlocked, that's how I had it set up.
On an interesting side note, I decided to call my local dealer's service department to ask them for a solution before I figured this out. They were closed for Saturday so the call went straight through the sales department. The salesman's solution for this was to come in and trade the thing in for a new car

Passive door unlock doesn't have an on/off option. It's always on for the driver's door; the option allows you to automatically have the passenger door unlock when you open the driver's door or not.
Passive Door Unlock: This option allows you to select
which doors will automatically unlock when you
approach and open the driver’s door with your keyless
access transmitter. See Door Locks on page 2-10
for more information.
Press the OPTION button until PASSIVE DOOR
UNLOCK appears on the display, then press the RESET
button to scroll through the following modes:
• DRIVER (default)
• BOTH
If you choose DRIVER, only the driver’s door will
automatically unlock when you approach and open the
driver’s door with your keyless access transmitter.
If you choose BOTH, both doors will automatically
unlock when you approach and open the driver’s door
with your keyless access transmitter.

Either you work in the parking space next to your car or you have SUPER fob.
I had mine in my gym bag, placed it in the rear compartment and the car wouldn't start! DIC NO FOB DETECTED.

That's the way my '07 coupe worked and my '09 Z06 works. If you are further than 3'-5' the passive unlock won't allow someone to open the locked door. The fob buttons will work further away, but I have accidentally hit the various buttons on the fob in my pocket by accident. I have my horn chirp every time it locks so I know it locked when I walked away, it's never failed yet.

I agree with you as well. I tend to think that the door receiver module is having a problem thinking the fob is right there all the time on the OP's car, therefore its allowing it to be opened. The only way he's going to find out for sure is with a Tech 2. There was a software/firmware update for some '05's for a door receiver problem but I thought it was related to the DBS problem rather than this. No, I didn't look to see which year the OP's got at this instant that I'm typing this.
