Using the C6 Navigation system - Parts 1 through 5
All right C6 General, feedback time. Several members have talked to me about creating a user guide (with pictures) for the navigation system. As most of you know, I'm a proponent of the system in so much as it has a reputation that it simply doesn't deserve. It is not easy to use, this much is true. Is it as incompetent as some here would lead you to believe, not by a long shot! I plan on doing several parts to this tutorial and posting them as I go. I will also get them all up on my website when they are finished. I will simply post them in parts here and post both the individual sections and a complete user manual on my website.
So, what do I need from you? I'd like you to download this first section and let me know if I'm on the right track. Let me know if you want more detail, more pictures, etc. I always try to help owners with issues and this is just one little give back to the forum. I've met some great folks here and love being a part of this great Internet community. So, let me know what you think and give me some thoughts on going forward. You are welcome to let me know what section you want in upcoming entries. I am working on using the Point of Interest system of the navigation unit next so after that, it's up to you. Majority rules and I'll do whatever you decide third. This first installment is 15 pages and 1.26MB. Just click to download.
*** Just an Update *** Part two of the supplement is now available and posted here as an attachment to this thread.:
Using the C6 Navigation system - Part 2 Other destination entries and POI's Here is part two of the series on making better (easier) use of the Corvette OEM navigation system. This contains a few more methods and screen shots for entering simple destinations and a section on using the Points of Interest features of the navigation system. Each of these editions only focus on simple, one destination entries at this point. I'll cover marked points, previous destinations and waypoints in an upcoming edition. Please also understand that these are intended to be a supplement and training aide to the OEM navigation manual as they do not include all of the features or entry methods.
You can also download parts 1, 2 and 3 along with the index from the Tech Tips page of my website located here:
http://www.theredlion.us/Tech%20tips2.htm
When I'm finished I'll also put one complete manual together which will include all of the individual parts. That will only be listed on my website simply due to size constraints.
Thanks to everyone for the feedback on the first installment. I'll be trying to do a few more over the upcoming weeks. Stay tuned and I'll of course post them here as I go.

***April 04 Update*** Part 3 of the tutorial has been posted to my website and attached here for convenience. This new section covers waypoints and memory points. As always, enjoy and don't hesitate to question or comment. Just to note, I have also posted an index file for quick reference. I have also amended the previous two parts with a couple of spelling corrections and the addition of page numbers so that the index file will make sense.
***April 04 Update Continued***
Part 4 of the navigation tutorial is now posted. This section focuses on using Previous destinations and Preset destinations. It is a little shorter than the other three but the topic is simply easier to cover. The index page has also been updated to reflect the new changes and additions.
***April 11 Update***
Part 5 of the navigation tutorial is now posted. This section covers the different map view modes and their functions. Only four pages but some information that some may find useful for making the most of the GPS while traveling. The index page has also been updated to reflect the new addition. The pages have also been added to my website.
Enjoy,
Paul
***April 29th update ***
Please see post 118 for a minor update to the series on using the Corvette Navigation system. I have reached my attached files limit for this post and will continue to add files in the thread and reference them here when done.
The document added today is a "cheat sheet" for using the navigation system along with a quick reference on where to find the detail in the navigation 2008 user manual. Consider this document a supplement or pocket reference for the system. I think that it compliments the full tutorial quite nicely and once you've gone through the tutorial you can take this reference guide with you in the car and refer back to it for a quick study on using a particular command on the system.
*** May 2nd update ***
Just playing around I decided to try something a little different today. I have uploaded the navigation tutorial in it's entirety to my website. I know that sometimes I just prefer to look something up quick on the web so I put the file up and linked it with the index file so that you can open the index and select the particular topic that you want to view. There is no new content in this file it is simply the complete document that all of the pdf files were created from in one place on one page.
Just enter the website and you will see a new link for a page called Navigation.

*** May 10th update ***
I believe that this will be the last update in the series for a while unless anyone has any suggestions or issues that they would like to see addressed. I intended this to highlight the overlooked features of the factory navigation system and hopefully provide some for the folks that are working with the OEM navigation system.
Part 6 is a section on the functions of the navigation system that are available while the vehicle is in motion. I've provided a link to download the file from my website below:
http://www.theredlion.us/Redlion2.htm
*** July 25, 2009 Update ***
I have completed a minor update to the navigation tutorial. I have added a reference to the index file to show the page where the information can be found in the 2008 OEM user manual. You can also download a copy of the 2008 OEM user manual on the Tech Tips page of my website along with all of the navigation tutorials. Also included in this update is a single sheet reference page which was provided to me by a forum member. This excellent work is a nice addition to the tutorial and if you just want a single sheet reference to keep with you in the glove box this might be a good option for you. Just note that the single sheet reference is only included in the complete volume and is not included in any of the individual part files. All can be found on my website here:
www.theredlion.us/redlion2.htm
The file can be found on the Tech Tips page. The index file has also been updated and is also available on the Tech Tips page.
Enjoy,
Paul

Paul, thanks for this excellent service. I agree with your comment that the Corvette navigation system doesn't deserve the strong negative comments that we see in many posts. If people are willing to read the manual or look at your tutorial, they will see that this is a very useful system. I have Garmin and Toyota navigation systems in my other cars. Each of the three systems has its advantages and disadvantages; however the Corvette system is the only one that provides correct directions near my home, and I do not live in a new area.
I learned a number of new tricks from reading your tutorial. Please continue to provide additional sections. Thanks again. Norm

Good stuff, Paul, I really never looked at the second pages, some nice info on them. The first real time I used mine, when I was absolutely lost ,was in Nashville, looking for the General Jackson cruise boat and I found it in the POI list, saved my butt, as Nashville roads were being torn up. I like the Nav system and your tutorial makes it better. Thankseddie

Paul,
I read your instructional draft and think you're on the right track! Once you get started on this, it might be difficult to stop. Your instructions could get very long...
I agree with your premise that the Navigation system is powerful but not as intuitive as it could be. Making matters worse, the factory manual is not very well written either. Your instructions might be marketable to GM!
Thanks for taking on this task and continuing to share your expertise with so many. Good Stuff.

Paul, first off, thanks for the very informative instruction manual for the C6 Navigation System. I would like to add this to the C6 FAQ's that was started if that is OK with you.

Thanks, Paul. I didn't know that there was an option to view the Route and a turn-by-turn list. It looks like I need to re-read the manual once again.

Go to the Main Menu and click the Navigation Setup button. Once there select the Quck POI button and set up your quick selection POI's.
This will allow you to populate the on the fly POI icons you'd like to have on your map when you need them. It will show you six choices, just click on any of them to change from the category list.
Once that is done, from any map screen, cllick on the map with your finger. In the lower right you will see a button pop up that sais POI. Click on it and it will bring you to the Quick POI screen. You can
From the quick POI screen you can select which icons you have displaying on the map and you can even do this on the move while driving. If the button is highlighted, it will display on the map. Click it again and it will turn off. Also, if stopped, you can select the "all local POI" button at the bottom right and it will give you a list with icons, name and distance to scroll down and choose.
