'53/C5 concept to be built
Remember the C5 with the 53 styling cues. GM is not interested but the builder of the prototype, Advanced Automotive Technologies, is going to build a limited number of the cars at it Rochester Hills Mich facility. Cost? $29,995 for the converson package.
This per AutoWeek I received today.

I think its a cool looking concept. However, I wouldn't pay $30,000 to have a C5 changed to that after paying $50,000 for the C5 in the first place...

Supposedly one of them was at the dream cruise this year, I didn't see it though.
Motor trend mentioned that the '53 driver tried to goad a new thunderbird driver into racing.... the thunderbird guy had a brain and declined :)

I like the general concept of combining the styling of the old with updated technology, but I would be more inclined to buy a c2/c4 conversion like we've been seeing in the Corvette magazines given the money. The MagnaSteyr car has too much of a "neat-o" kit car factor about it that I think will wear off quickly. The c2/c4 conversions seem more acceptable since your taking an original body, but updating chassis and drivetrain, which don't necessarily affect the authentic look of the car.
Don't get me wrong, I really like some of the Lambo/Fiero kit cars out there, especially the ones with the lengthened chassis and Caddy Northstar. And who could pass up a Cobra kit car?? But those kits are more true to the original body, but with updated drivetrains and running gear.
For a C5, if you've gotta change the body -- SpectreWerkes :yesnod:

I like the retro '53 a lot. Some may strongly disagree with me, but the C5 Corvette, while non-offending in style, also does not have as bold a design as past models.
