Considering a full wide body conversion
Frist step is full body conversion (ZR1 or Z06). Second step is Z06 brake upgrade. Third step is engine (cam, headers, tune). I'm comfortable doing the engine stuff myself but have not tackled body previously and definitely want it done right. Does anyone have some advice or names of shops in the ohio/michigan/indiana area that have experience with body conversions?

The only thing that is stopping me is the cost. From what other members post here the cost is between $10K and $15K depending on how much you can do yourself. Some conversions even higher if you opt for aftermarket brakes and rotors, wheels and tires. With the current market on nice used Z-06s the practicality of the conversion is questionable for me. just my opinion.

My point was that if the Z-06 preformance and other upgrades is priority then just go for a nice low mileage Z-06. If the focus in on building a clone ZR-1 from a C-6 then the conversion cost will be much more without the preformance of the Z0-6 much less the ZR-1. If the value of the donor ther car is is not an issue then mod away. It should look awsome when finished.

I would love to do a widebody conversion, but it is quite costly because I want it done correctly. I would like a Z-06 but they don't come in convertible.

You should get ahold of American Custom in Sylvania, Ohio. They manufacture their own parts on site, and they are probably the best Corvette people, having been customizing Corvettes for over 40 years. I saw their convertible conversion at FunFest in Effingham... Looks spectacular! Wherever you go, make sure they know their stuff! There are plenty of people who get screwed by a shop that doesn't know their Corvettes. Best of luck!
