Is Magnetic Selective Ride Control Worth the Expense
I've been looking at new Corvettes and trying to pick the option combination. Does ride control change the suspension enough to make it worth the expense? The couple I have driven do not have this option but the test drives were on smooth roads. Please advise

I have this option and would never go back. If I ordered a new Corvette this would be the first option box I would check. The ability to cruise in a sportscar in near Lexus quiet and comfort (the upgrade C6 seats are wonderful!) on long trips is priceless.

I decided it wasn't worth the expense. But that's because I have very specific ideas about how the car should ride and handle, and those ideas differ from any of the choices offered by Chevy. So that meant I was going with a custom suspension setup in any event, and made the no extra cost base suspension the obvious choice for me.
Magnetic selective ride is a very sophisticated system, in principle much better than conventional shocks, and more long lasting and reliable too. If there were a way offered to tune it to suit my requirements, I'd have jumped on it. But the algorithm coefficients are secured in a black box that only expensive reverse engineering would allow me to change.
However, if you like the choices Chevy made for the touring and sport settings, it would be a good choice for you. Lots of people do like the choices Chevy made. Upgrading the swaybars to Z51 sizes ($150 from our vendors) is the most popular mod, and a good one too. Unlike the complete Z51 package, the F55 package has more reasonable spring rates and much better damping factors (tires that last longer too).

It's an especially nice option if you're going to be driving on rough roads....either around home or (in my case) on road trips where road conditions are uncontrollable.

I drove both before my purchase and I do not feel it is worth the added expense.

After owning a Corvette w/F55 ~ I decided second time around it wasn't worth the extra money...so I passed. I would suggest you test drive both and make your own decision before putting any money down.

Definitely worth it IMO. It can't all be wrong since the new ZR1 went with a similar system that provides better performance then a Z06 but a lot better ride also.

My 07 did not have it and my 09 does. If your roads are somewhat bumpy, I would strongly recommend it. The suspension not only lets you control the shocks, it helps keep the car in contact with the road. When I took NCM delivery on Sept. 29th, our guide showed us a video of the system at work and it is quite impressive. A little pricey, but worth it in my neck of the woods. I was also told that the program had been revamped for 09(and on the ZR1 also). A very nice piece of technology(apparently Ferrarri uses a similar set-up for their cars).

I find it interesting that my buddy with his 07 Z51 has a very difficult time keeping up with me on any uneven surfaced roads. It beats the hell out of his car and he simply has to run slower on those roads. Had I lived in a place that had good roads I would have opted for the Z51 because of the oil cooler. That is the only thing I would have really liked to have from that option group....

I don't think people realize just how much technology goes into the Magnetic Selective ride control.
I had it on my 03 but do not have it on my 06.
I like the base suspension Corvette and think the ride is great but I also appreciate the Magnetic Suspension and if it were in stock at the time I got my 06 with the color & options I wanted I would have gotten it.
I don't know if I am explaining this right but what I am trying to say it is an incredible suspension system and definitely worth the money but the base suspension is excellent also ... kind of like saying are the chrome wheels worth the extra $$ over the base wheels ... both are nice, both look good and you would appreciate either one of them.
