Are there any Z06's with auto trans?
I've owned classic Chevy muscle cars for 40 years. Just sold my last one, a '68 Camaro. Yeah, it had a 4-speed and that was great. All of my muscle cars have had 4-speeds.
I wanna buy a Vette now, but it's gotta have an auto trans. I'd really like to grab a Z06, but there's no frakkin' way I'm shifting gears all day. Are there any Z06's that have auto trans?
thanks

there was a rumor that there might be an AT for the Z06 in 2010.
(Assuming there is a 2010).

Rumors are all over for 2010. It would be smart. We all know they need to sell cars. If the Z comes in an auto sign me up. I'm in Chicago and a stick is foolish out here. And with the new autos no need for a manual unless you want one. And that is the way it should be. Giving thecustomer what they want. After all 70% of Vettes are sold with autos. Manuals are fine for some. But, others in big cities or who may drive the car more often a auto just makes sense.

Sign me up too! I think the only bolt-on I would do is putting full
time Drag Radials on it.

Yes, there are a number of Z06s with auto trannies. Unfortunately, they are all aftermarket conversions. But, it's all done with factory parts, so don't let that stop you if that's what you want. I believe the usual cost is in the vicinity of $10k. That's a ton of money, but it might have a better resale than most mods, as it seems there is a steady demand for auto Z06s.
Note to GM: you should sell auto Z06s, and vert Z06s (with steel frames), and even vert Z06s with autos. If people want to buy a product you could build right now, out of parts on hand, with essentially no development cost, you should sell it to them.

My note to GM is make a fixed roof coupe LS3 with the Z06 aluminum frame, manual trans, and 15 more hp ( should be easy to come up with that I would think ). Immediately you'd have a car that would be midway between the present steel framed coupe and the Z06.
On the auto/Z06 question. I look at it this way: when and if they put an auto in the Z06 the Z06 will never be the same again. It is what it is now....a very tough, mean, aggressive, super fast near exotic vette.
Make it available with an auto and you'll have people buying them who not only can't shift a manual but also can't tell a V8 from an inline 4. I think one thing that keeps more Z's from being bought by people seeking image and status only who have no interest in performance is the simple fact that, being non performance people, they can't drive a manual or at the least can't drive one well.
I think autos in the base car have their place. Obviously lots of them get sold. My neighbor has a nice C5 auto that she and her little dog occasionally take out on shopping trips. Also, aged drivers, or those with physical disabilities that prevent them from using a clutch should have an auto vette available....but NOT the Z06.
And if a stick is foolish in Chicago ( I presume due to bumper to bumper traffic? ) then it would be foolish to even drive something like the Z06 in such conditions auto or manual.
