I have a C6 Coupe and purchased a spare "see-through" roof panel for my Vette. I have looked around to try find a storage unit for my spare "original roof" and bought one of those Vinyl Covers that zipps up on the one side.
I put my roof in my garage and have always been worried that it may still get damaged even in that "bag". Well this morning I went into the carage to go out to work and it was real windy and the roof tilted back and fell on the floor just as I backed out of my garage and it caused damage to my roof as my car hit it on the one side.
Even in the Vinyl bag it picked up damage as well.
Any other ideas out there to properly store these roofs. They are around $1600 and not cheap to replace.
I had a peg board on the wall in the garage so I put some of the hooks that go thru the holes and then used a few bungy cords to hold it from the bottom of the pane up to the top of the peg board. I was worried it would fall off the hooks so I used the bungy cords and it never moves! Very easy to remove and swap out with the other top!

Many of those who have garages suspended the pano roofs of our SL's from the ceiling or rafters. Its simple to rig a small pulley with padded hooks that allow you to raise and lower it. As the Mercedes pano roofs are much larger, it should be great for the Vette roof.
I was going to post this exact same question yesterday. I found an old guitar shipping box to put the other top I have in. I just need to find something very soft to wrap the top with, so I can place it in a box for a few months. Sorry for the thread hijack.
Does anyone know of a very soft material that will not scratch the top when it is inside of the box?
Maybe the OP can wrap up the removable top and place it in a large box for the winter? I hope my idea works for the both of us, along with anyone else with this problem.
I wish I was at home to take pic for you. Go to Home Depot to the department that sells hook and hanging devices for shovels , bikes , and other garage type items. I bought 2 of the bike hangers that look like a big " U " . I put 1 on the wall in the normal position and then the other on top in the upside down position. I put that hot water pipe insulation over the tubing. The top slides in perfect and is not going anywere. I know this reply is worthless without pic's but will have to wait until I get home. I got this idea off the forum , there was a thread a while back , try searching in the meantime.
Strikervette - Can you email me the info of that company so I can check it out! Worth while getting a descent box or container for my roof. Email at andre1972k@gmail.com. Not sure I want to have my roof open and exposed hanging against the wall. Better to store it away properly as I also have kids running around the house and in and out of the garage - Thanks again.
I am currently storing my extra top in a storage area under one of my shop tables and currently working on a container that is lined in foam and hangs on the wall for storage. I will post pics when it is completed.
Next time keep the box and the heavy guage plastic bags it came in!!! It shipped UPS across the country to me it without damage; just think how well it works in the corner of your garage or underneath your bench!!!
my painted roof panel is gently stored in a large plastic bag and double wrapped in a 3-inch thick comforter stored in my beroom closet away from other junk and potential falling debris. once summer times comes along here in texas, the painted and transparent roof panels switch places.
I store mine, wrapped in a blanket, upright, under my model train table. Nobody, and I mean, nobody goes there but me. It's safe and sound and protected from everything.
Here are some photos I took this morning of a case which I bought from a company here in Huntsville Alabama: They make roof cases for most removable top cars.
The case has wheels on 2 sides as well as handles on 3 sides and is obviously very easily stored and moved around when I neeed to. It is very strong and protects my roof 100%. If you need their contact info let me know.

Great idea Strikervette! If you have spare time, could you please private message me the companies information that creates that roof protector? Beautiful car by the way, I love White Corvettes.
I store my painted roof in the GM vinyl storage pouch that I got from Gene Culley when I bought the transparent roof. I hang the pouch/roof in my shop using the handles (which are pretty heavy duty) that are sewn onto the pouch. --- John
