IMO there's no problem. Sometimes the car just doesn't recognize the fob, or can't receive it's signal when it's in your pocket. It happens occasionally.

I've had the no fob message. Sometimes I can change from my right pocket next to the console to my left pocket and it solves the problem.
Once, with an 05 Coupe, I had to change the battery.
This is probably the problem. Nothing serious if that's it.

You might want to invest in a new battery. The fob should be good for approximately three feet, obviously depending on other interference issues, jeans vs. slacks etc. My fob will work even if I am on the passenger side, if it is in my left pocket. It will not always work if I'm on the passenger side and it is in my right pocket. Just that little bit of difference.

I had my fob in a pair of shorts I was wearing. I was in the garage doing situps and I noticed the rear hatch on the Vette popped open. Hmmm, I though. That was odd. So I went and closed it and went back to my workout. It did it again. Finally figured out that I was compressing the fob in my shorts and it was openning the hatch.

Dohhhhh!

While it's possible you could have a problem, you probably don't. Wait and see if it happens again on a regular basis before you consider getting it checked out.
