Default Removing Splash Guards

I installed Z0-6 guards on my '07 coupe a couple of years ago. My question to the brain trust is: Since these guards were installed using instructions here on the forum, using very high bond (VHB) double stick tape, can they be removed without damaging the paint? If they can be removed what would be the best way? All responces are very much appreciated.

I'd use Goof Off behind the tape (peel back if possible)

I'm probably nuts so look what others say.

hmm, don't know, but if it's 3M tape, I'd call them. they literally have experts that can answer your question or get back to you from the experts.

I just did this, never really liked the fit of the Z06 guards, removed them and installed the GCA's. Look MUCH better, but the Z06s provided better protection. Anyway, heat gun and patience did the trick, then goo-off to remove the remainder. Oddly enough, the VHB came right off, the grey factory 3m on the other hand....there were a couple of spots I had to use fishing line to kinda "saw thru" the tape.
Good luck!
Anybody wanna buy a set of modified Z06 guards - on the cheap?

Also you might try fishing line. When I had my C5 this is what alot of people used to remove the side molding on the C5s with out any damage.

3M makes an adhesive remover thats safe for auto paint. I got some from pep boys. You can use a wet rag near the edges to help dissolve the glue, then keep moving inward. Just go slow and let it loosen and separate on its own..

I'm doing this for exactly the same reason that you did. I just think the GCA's look better. The modified ZO-6 splash guards were the only option until recently. Thanks for the removal advise.

I just did the exact same thing. Removed mine a couple weeks ago. Once I removed the screws on the bottom I slowly pulled the guard from the top down. I came off with no problems and I used some alcohol to remove the residue that was left on the fender.

Here's a non-recommended way to remove them. I went with the new GM guards on my new 09.

Don't know if you're talking about this one, but I forgot: I have a spray can of 3M Gen Purpose Adhesive Remover that I use for bugs and road tar. Tall, red can with white top. I guess it'd work after you pulled off the guards and some of the tape.

Mine is not a spray.. I bought it to remove some dealer badge that was stuck on my wifes car. I applied it on a cloth and let it soak on the decal.. Slid right off.. Made by 3M for their adhesives. Good stuff as is most of 3M's products

That sounds like the real deal. Probably the stuff 3M would recommend any way.
