Default Underhood Lamp Installation...How do it?

I got the underhood lamp today and wiring harness to install on my new 09 vert when it arrives. The problem is that I'm trying to figure out how to secure the lamp assembly to the underside of the hood. On my 06 C6, which came with a lamp installed, the lamp assembly was riveted to the underside of the hood. No rivets, screws or anything else came with the lamp assembly. So, for those of you who have done this install, how did you affix it to the underside of the hood? Thanks! Dan

Instructions and rivets should have come with the lamp. But you can get pop rivets at any hardware store.

On my 2008, I pop-riveted it to the underside of the hood. The holes were already there. The holes for the wiring retainers were already there also.

I assume you already have the (2006, I think) hood liner with the opening for the lamp.

Roger your last transmission...however, no instructions with the lamp. Just the lamp assembly in the GM box.

Did the rivets come with your lamp or did you have to buy them? How do you do a pop-rivet. Do you need a rivet gun? Stupid questions, but I've never done anything like that. Thanks. Dan

The rivets came with it. I don't remember what size -- whatever fits in the hole. You will need a rivet gun. They're $10-20.

I have the instructions. Do you have a fax number?

I was also able to scan the instructions to a .pdf (Adobe Reader/Acrobat) file that I can email if you want it.

I didn't know my scanner would do that.

Hello - can someone provide the part number for the lamp? I added one to my C5, and there was already a plug in the existing wiring harness to plug the harness into. Is it the same with this one?

FM - Can you email me the instructions? I'll pm you my email address.

I'll try to get it to you later. It is in the garage at the moment. Dan

Yes, there is an existing connector on the right side of the radiator support. It is not compatible with the connector on the lamp wire.

I think you have to remove the connector plug from the wire on the car and insert the wires into the connector that comes with the lamp, but the instructions don't make that completely clear and I haven't had time to fool with it.

I just got from FM the instructions for the underhood lamp kit. I ordered a lamp and wiring harness from MidAmerica, but it didn't come with instructions for installing the lamp itself, nor did it come with rivets. I have a call into those folks. The salesman didn't have a clue, so he has to talk to the techs tomorrow and get back to me. In any event, per FM's instructions, the underhood lamp kit is labeled as GMT245 Underhood Lamp Kit. It shows a part number of 19165568. I think you should probably order your kit through a GM dealer. I should have done so. Dan

FM sent the instructions to me as well. Thanks FM

I appreciate the "learning experience" on where not to buy

I am not crazy about doing this unless the harness is a direct plug in. I can cut and splice with no problem. I just don't want to.

Are we sure the plugs don't match?

As I found out the hard way, see my post here the 09 doesn't have the "right" hood liner for the lamp installation, you have 2 choices, try to modify your existing hood liner and make it work, or order the replacement one that has the hole molded in. The 05/06 hood liner has this as does the painted one from GM, the part number is 17801773 and the GM list price is $225.

I took the hood insulation piece off my 06 vert, which has the colored C6 flag decal on it. The 06 came with a hood lamp. I now want the hood lamp on the 09 to fill the hole in the insulation piece. Dan

The Connector on the car has a protective cap that needs to be removed before you can plug in the hood harness connector. With the protective cap removed, it is a direct fit.

I've got that part of the install. The problem with the lamp assembly sent by MidAmerica is that it did not come with rivets to affix to the underside of the hood. Dan
