A4 to A6 shifter change
Is there any problems I should know about before trying to change out my A4 shifter to the A6 shifter? I've come across a A6 shifter and if I'm not mistaken I've read about a few members here on the forum retrofit their A4 to an A6 shifter. I'm hoping it's a simple swap and big custom retrofit. I would appreciate an info on how this is done.
Thanks for any help it would be much appreciated.

Are you trying to make the A4 into paddles and still a 4 speed or trying to convert it into a 6 speed. If its a DD that you need to rely on everyday I'd be afraid to monkey around with it

Just a reminder that the A6 shifter does not shift like the A4 shifter which allows you to use the shifter to shift through the gears. An A6 only has D for Drive and S for Sport, the paddles are used to shift all 6 forward gears.

I want to swap out my A4 for the A6 shifter only and not get involved with the paddles only the shifters. My whole reason for the swap is IMHO, I like the look of the A6 **** over the A4 ****. I've looked that an adapter so any manual **** can be used (don't like the look also raises the height of the ****), also looked at a few ***** that are available for the C5 but none are to my liking. IMO, the best looking is the A6 shifter and ****.

I'm looking to switch out my A4 shifter assembly ie. the lever, bolt, ****, and the boot if necessary and replace them with the A6 parts. I would keep everything else from my 05.
Thanks
Thanks

It is really not hard. Not sure why more people have not done it.
Part needed
Full A6 shifter, base, shaft (comes all as one)
You can buy them from wrecked A6s..
Take off radio console
take off boot
Unscrew the base
unplug the wires
wiggle the shaft and look underneath the base and you will see the shaft that plugs into the another metal shaft. It connects like a ball and joint. You have to pop it off the joint then just work backwards. Very simple and took maybe 20 mins.

I'm going to modify mine this week. Is your instructions and pictures still available?
FYI , I am only modding the ****. Not the shifter.
