Default Fastest Legal Road in the US

Today, The new, Southern Section of Texas State Highway 130 was opened to the public. It has the highest legal speed limit in the U.S. Even though it was the middle of the afternoon, nine of our Corvette Club cars showed up to try out the super smooth road. (Most of us stayed close to the speed limit). We started at the Southern end (IH-10) and ended up in Lockhart, TX (the BBQ Capitol of Texas) for dinner.

Tolls don't start until November 11th, so come on down and try it out.

Still Legal

We called it "The Sammy Hagar - Eat Your Heart Out - Tour"

Very nice. If you drive less than 80 MPH on I-24 between Murfreesboro and Nashville here in TN, you'll get run over.

I'm envious, our highest speed limit here in Indiana is 70.

I like the 85 mph Limit. The most dangerous area for speeding in the USA as far as I am concerned is in New Mexico on I40 after dark. Most everyone there including the big trucks seem to be going well over the posted speed limits.

This road was designed and layed out for this speed. Limited access, wide open, paved shoulders on both sides. There are signs that say "slow traffic keep right" If you are driving 80, you are the slow traffic.

Don't mess with Texas

Speed limits are just revenue generators. Most of the posted limits in this country are way too slow for the roads.

I bet you're more likely to get ticketed for 10-15 over on that road than on a normal freeway with a speed limit of 65 and traffic doing 80.

Cops would probably be more prone to pull you over for 100 in an 85.

Hmmmm.....wonder if NJ DOT would be willing to talk to TX DOT about changing the speed limits here. Yeah, right!
