I went from a 01 to 05. There are some things I like better in the C5 but overall the C6 is just a better car. I would do it again. I shopped for about 8 months before I found one at the right price.

Recently sold my '03 AE MN6 coupe to a friend. Next day bought a '08 VY 3LZ Z06. I still see the '03 and love the C5. The Z06 is way nicer. Interior is much better and the 505 horses are nice too. The only thing is that I haven't figured out how the top comes off the Z. My brother also sold an '03 and got a '08 coupe.
Absolutely no regrets and would do it again. Wish I could have kept the '03 though.

I went from an '04 vert to an '06 vert. By itself, the difference in power would not have been enough to make me upgrade. It was the combo of looks, power top, keyless ignition/hands free locking and HP increase that made me change.

I had a windfall, and after rebuilding the kids college fund that the flipping stock market has ravaged, and paying some bills, I have about enough to buy a used C6 if I sell the C5.
So here is the deal. I LOVE the C6, it is beautiful and fast, but is the 12-15 grand that I have to spend worth the extra 50-85 HP (LS2/LS3) and styling changes? Those that had a C5, would you do it again?

'03 Z51 MY auto vert with intake and Bassani to '08 Z51 Black M6 (with exhaust option) vert. Both great cars but the new one is better in every single way. You'd have to decide if its enough better. To me, it was easy b/c one lease was up so I just re-upped

The only thing that I don't miss about my C5 is the interior...huge upgrade to the C6. Can't say that I would buy another C5 but I certainly still love the car.

This is a tough one! I have a '04 C5 coupe and a '08 C6 'vert.
The C6 is without a doubt a more modern, better car -- but I agree with the ~15% comment above -- better, but not hugely better.
If I had to choose only 1 today, it be a *really* tough decision, but it would probably be the C5. I like the C5 body style *much* more than the C6, and after 25K miles (vs. 10K in the C6), the C5 just seems more "right" (sorta like the fit of a favorite pair of shoes).
On the other hand, the C6 has all the electronic goodies.
On the other hand, I could do a double-DIN dash in the C5 for a navigation unit, and a few taasteful powertrain mods, and have something similar to the C6.
On the other hand, ... well, you get the point.
Bottom line, I fully agree with the above comment re: drive a C6. The only thing I would add is, do the drive, then step back and drive the C5 again. Then ask yourself, would I *really* get *that* much more enjoyment out of the C6? Is it worth the huge chunk of change?
In my case, I'm so-so (don't get me wrong, the C6 is a *great* car!). I do sometimes wonder, though, whether I would have been happier with a C5 'vert, and a bunch of xtra $$$ in my pocket.

I traded in my '01 MY coupe for an '08 VY coupe a little less than 3 months ago. I'd definitely do it again.
I absolutely adored my C5 (my first Vette), but I'd had it for almost 7-1/2 years, it had over 90K miles on it, and stuff was starting to go wrong (the extended warranty had expired, so I was on my own for the repair costs).
I go against the grain in that I think the C5 is, in many ways, a better looking car than the C6 -- beautiful lines of the C5 vs. the more aggressive styling of the C6. However, the C6 has more precise steering, and the power comes on much smoother. Plus, roof popping noise notwithstanding (I've had the latches replaced), my C6 seems to have been put together better than my C5.
Bottom line: IMO, moving up is a smart and rewarding thing to do.

Well.... I have never own'ed a C5. I just went from a C4 to a 09 C6. I test drove many C5's and never thought it was a good car, certainly not an improvemnet to my C4 and it's go-kart feel. I really tried to like it but other than the extra stock HP I didn't like it.
Now the C6... I put off test driving one because I knew from the first time I saw one that if I test drove it I'd buy one. I did and I did...

I bought a new 2001 MY coupe and got tired of it quickly. Traded for a 2004 Machine Silver coupe and about the only difference was the color. Did not think they lived up to their reputations. I heavily modded both. Recently I traded for a 2008 coupe. So far it appears to be different (on the positive side) in handling, rattles, performance (more hp), paddle shifter vs 6 speeds, comfort and so on. This one may be a keeper.

I'v owned three C5's (vert, coupe & Z06) and two C6's (coupe and vert). Go with a good used C5 Z06. You'll save money and have a great car with all the performance (maybe a touch more) of the C6. You will give up "refinement" for a pure hot rod.

I had a 98 c5 black coupe with corsa indy exhaust. I loved it. the c6 is much better in every way as far as im concerned. although i must admit i sometimes miss the lower and tougher looking stance of the c5. my c6 has corsa sports and sounds just like the old ones and the coupe is of course jet black! go with the c6!

Thanks for all of the input guys, I really appreciate the honest feedback. I’m gonna put her up for sale in a month or so and see how it goes.
