Hi Dom... Nice to hear from you again!
I'm not planning on being there tonight, but, I could drop by for a couple of minutes after 8:30 if you are still going to be there. Otherwise, I'll give you a call the first part of next week.
Cheers!

It works! Try it ... simple, yet elegant.
For those of you wondering what "gold metallic" on IO looks like ...
mask around the logo and use a cut cardboard box to prevent overspray.
i used a "lintless" shop towel and a small wood block for wiping and used a toothbrush to load just enough mineral spirits onto the towel to make it wet. stretch the towel taught over the wood block and wipe. change to a clean part of the towel and add more spirits when the excess paint loads the towel. careful: too much mineral spirits will start to wet the edges and "eat" too much out of the logo fill. (i had to do mine twice, live and learn). you can mask off the entire logo to clean near the egde, or use Q-tips as suggested in the write up.
the results are really good! total time: done twice, about 1-1/2 hrs.
note: Rustoleum "gold metallic" is not shiny and will darken over time (a few years) in the sunlight. i've used it on plastic GM Wheel covers, extremely durable. do not spray too many coats. 2-3 is enough for complete coverage. more than 3 coats will make the paint 'craze' and it tends to pick up more dust than usual. good luck ... have fun!!

I tried this and it came out perfect!! I used a styrofoam block when rubbing the excess off and the mineral spirits with the cloth would stick to it and made it a totally flat surface for wiping off the paint. I can't believe how nice this has turned out. I keep going out and looking at it. Thanks for the information.

Gold/tan? Maybe there's a metallic gold/tan.

I did it. Piece of cake!
I did this while baking chicken wings. Paint, put wings in oven. That gives me something to do while it drys. Then spray again after the wings are in oven. Then check wings then wipe and by then the wings are done baking. Eat and then check for runs. That simple. Make sure you use a very small amount of mineral spirits. OP is very right on this. It doesn't take a lot and it comes off very easy.

Thanks! Don't be shy about 'spray painting' your 'Vette... If you do it like we show (using the 'original' RUST OLEUM and MINERAL SPIRITS) you will do fine. Remember, if you mess it up on the first try, just take your trusty MINERAL SPIRITS, paper towels, and toothbrush and remove the 'mess.' Then just do it again.
The two mistakes that I made the first time around (nearly a year ago) were: (1) spraying too much paint, and (2) having my paper towel 'pad' too wet with MINERAL SPIRITS. You want to use just enough paint to fill the letters and completely cover the body color; no more. And as I tried to stress in the write-up, the paper towel 'pad' should be just barely moist.
Anyway, go ahead and give it a try, heck, if I can do it, anybody can do it.
By the way, I sure notice that I'm seeing a lot of scalp in those photos... I wonder, where did all my hair go???

Like Johnny Bench always said, "No runs, no drips and no errors" I was thinking about doing a two tone like a post earlier but can't think of the colors for the C and the V that would match the red and black. hmmmmm

Can you paint over with another color if you don't like the first color or do you have to remove the first color of paint. I did something similar on the rear of my C5. There are two loovers on the bottom of the rear bumper and I could see some shiny areas on my mufflers behind the loovers that needed painting black so I sprayed through the loovers and naturally got paint on the bumper finish and I used a rag and gasoline to wipe the spray off. Great write up and pics, thanks

Just did mine, turned out great, after 2 days I went over it with Megs. scratch remover because some small fibers from the paper towel showing on a couple of the letter edges, that seemed to remove the white fibers, I would suggest using a lint free cloth as someone else mentioned earlier, never the less it is a fairly easy job, thanks to the OP for the guidance.

I removed my front license plate and used this process to paint it and it worked great. I think I had to much paint because I had to make several passes to get the paint off. Looks great and I will do the back at some point and time. Thanks for the info and picks
