$57k is a bit steep.
I got my '06 for $43k in '05, with the Z51 3LT pkg.
I'm waiting for 0% on the '08-09 models right now.
Fall, and the closer to Christmas you get is the best, and I mean THE BEST time to haggle with new car sales people.

There is no NADA book value on the 2008 yet.
Blackbook hits the car at $41900 average wholesale with two roofs and polished wheels added. Clean wholesale is $44100. Rough wholesale is $39550.
The dealer is simply trying to be WAY back of book on the car since he's not familiar with the product. Run your car through the auction and it brings no less than $40000 in my opinion.

You're lucky he was even willing to take a trade at all. The used car market is a joke right now. The dealers can't sell new cars. let alone used. Which is why dealers are less likely to take trades these days, or give you a ridiculously low price for it. This is a very bad time to try to sell cars or anything else for that matter, unless you sell petroleum.

I just came home from a local lexus dealer with a freind .while i was there the salesman tried to sell me the is-f and would let me trade my 08 c6 coupe and even give me book value a whopping $38,500 for it my car is a 3lt glass roof chrome wheels z-51 6 speed crm with 800 miles he did show me that that is the book value how is this possible i paid $57.000 4 months ago i also called a wholesaler and he came up with the same numbers any input would be great
Put it on Autotrader on the internet and sell it in CA. They are worth more here.
Also, there are no real trade figures for 2008 used market yet, so they probably gave you an 07 price.
Just got a 2008 fully loaded z51 with nav, all extras and paid under dealer invoice. The sticker was about 60K.

Just to be sure, I checked used index at kelly blue book, and there are no stats for 2008 corvette, they gave you 2007 price! Also NJ used vette is about 10% less than CA price, but sometimes for a good reason. CA cars never go through a winter and are free of salt from roads. Cars last longer here.

Most "Winter" locals garage their vettes for the Winter.

It makes sense to a Californian.... lol But I understand what you are saying. It is my understanding, that if you talk to older car restorers, they will agree that CA cars are preferred.

Life with vette get used to it.
Deep discounts up front, high gas prices prevailing, GM teetering over the cliff and into bankrupcy, slow economy and depression level tensions all contribute to the free fall in resale values for vettes.
So get ready: e.g. 07 a6 vert, 11K miles, LT3, Z51, chrome, auto top, extended 7 year warranty 32K and dropping by August/September. We're at Defcon 3 and going to 2.

From a buyers perspective...I have been trying to buy a 07 or 08 vette for the last couple weeks to no avail. I have seen 07's sell for 32k with low miles, 08's for 36,500...but I have yet to find such a 'deal' myself. I am not going to spend 40k on 2lt z51 '08 when I can order a '09 for 44k and change with museum delivery....yet that's what some sellers expect. I see 06's at 35k - that does not even make sense
So if the adage it true that something is only worth what someone is willing to pay then the market will continue to correct itself...and I will be patiently waiting for my first vette and the fulfillment of a lifelong dream.

You being a Corvette lover probably find it hard but you have to realize that to a Lexus dealer it's just another car and not one that's real easy to sell.....
That's reality, they are NOT easy to sell, especially at a Lexus dealership.

Im a dealer, and I agree.
The problem goes beyond what the car is "worth" to the buyers who are out there. Cars are moving very slowly right now. Dealers only have the ability to invest $xxx in their inventory. Too many cars and not enough buyers. They would rather invest their inventory dollars in fuel efficient cars that are moving. So yes, you car is "worth" less.

There is not enough data to put it on KBB or NADA. Manhiem auction averages say 41k-44k
This is true !! enjoy it !!
