Default Birds Are Killing Me.

Twice now a bird has messed on my VR C6 and both times it has etched the clear coat. First, is there something wrong with my clear coat? The second time I had just finished waxing the car. It wasn't on the car for more than several hours. Second, is there a way to fix the damage? Thanks in advance. This is making me crazy. I can't spend all my time watching the sky.

Default Never Had Your Problem..

Sorry, but always using a good wax or similar exterior protector, I've never had a problem with birds (or bugs), as you describe. My new favorite is RejeX, but after three Vettes and using other products, no issues.

I might add we have REALLY big birds in AZ. In the North they are called black birds. In Arizona they are ravens, and as large as a good sized chicken. So, considering their size, they leave nasty messes! Not one, in eight years, has left permanent damage to any of my vehicles. (And they've tried!)

In summary, try products and techniques recommended on the forum, to remove the damage, but I don't think the issue is the clearcoat. After three Vettes, and tons of bird sh_t, I have never had your problem..

You must have some very toxic bird doo-doo!

Good luck!

Every now and then I get one that decides to roost on my side mirror,
then decides to let loose. I walk out and see a black car with a white mirror. Maybe I need rejex on the mirror so the birds can't get a good grip.

Use ReJex instead of wax.

"RejeX is a thin-film polymer coating designed to provide a high-release surface. This very thin film – less than a micron thick – prevents stains and adhesion of common contaminants such as exhaust, bugs, oil, tree sap, bird droppings, road grime, brake dust, etc. It also makes graffiti easy to remove and can be applied to windshields to repel rain. It’s easy to apply and produces a deep, lustrous shine that outlasts the most popular waxes by months."

Say you're at the Laguna Beach Hotel enjoying a sunset dinner and surf and a squadron of Pelicans sh*t on your head. That's a problem. It happens...you take your napkin and wipe it off. You think about shotguns. Next time you wear a hat.

Meanwhile the salt collecting on your Vette in the parking lot while you enjoy the surf and sunset is probably causing more damage then the Pelicans if they chose instead to sh*t on your car.

I guess it's a matter of perspective. Life's short...wipe it and wax it or put a cover on it, then enjoy the moment.

I have a big bird problem, my theory is that they like red cars 'cause they never drop a load on my wife's car which is silver.

I have never had permanent damage but do keep the car waxed up most of the time.

Meguiars scratch X works well to fix this type of damage.

Had the same problem on my '05. Light pressure hand polishing with a fine compound and lots of wax got it to the point I had to look for the spot. Not gone but not noticeable.

The flexable agent they add to the paint for our flexible panels can sometimes be added in a larger amount than it should be. some cars never fully cure or take some time too cure, leaving and easily etched paint surface.

On another hand birds will kill you if the bird flu ever jumps species...Lol..

That's why I put some form of paste or spray wax/ detailer on
after every wash... I like to think of it as preventative maintenance... It also makes the car easier to clean in future car washes. I also keep some detailer in the trunk to clean off things like bird droppings.
