Default Corvette Property Taxes.

Just curious what some of you pay for property taxes in your communities.. I just got my tax bill for my 05 Vert for last year. They valued it at $42000.00 and taxes for the nine months I had it are about $1000.00.

P.S. All you Fla. NH etc people please don't rub it in about not having vehicle property taxes Some of our members have vehicles registered in those states to skip taxes

If I still lived in MA I wouldn't have the vets I have now. VT doesn't have a personal property tax, in MA it was 2-1/2% of value or $25 per thousand so at $42,000 that would be $2,100 on just the 05. I figure my tax bill on my collection would be approaching $10K if I was still in MA.

I've lived in three different states and I've never even heard of vehicle property taxes before.

Many times the tax is part of your vehicle registration. Iowa doesn't have a separate tax on the value, but the registration fee is based on the value until the car is past a certain age. I don't live there anymore so I don't recall exactly how long or how much.

Comrade! You must leave that Socialistic Republic that you live in and try a little Democracy! If I had to pay a property tax on my cars, I'd have to sell my house. That's just nuts...

Oh come on. When I lived in East Greenwich we paid an additional " Fire Tax" to the town. Now as a MD resident I have no property tax on the Corvette but I would gladly pay one to be living back in RI.

Since the cost per capita is about the same no matter where you live, the tax is about the same. The difference is where you see it. Some states make it obvious what you are paying and others hide it very well. Some tax the people receiving the services and some tax "outsiders".

In NC, we pay a 3% sales tax (hiway use), then about 1% a year, depending on where we live. Mine is 1.1%. I contested the value of my BMW, and when they found out how few miles I had on it, they raised the assessed value. I won't do that again. My motorhome "moved" to my daughters house in Florida.

I live in a heavily taxed society, but when I read the title of the thread I thought it was some joke - I have never heard of property tax on a vehicle in my whole life!

No tax here in Illinois, but they tax the hell out of us for everything else (10.25% sales tax in Chicago )

Actually, I never even knew any states charged property tax on cars. Yikes!

While we have no sales tax here, we do pay plenty of property tax on land and buildings ... just not on cars or personal possessions. There is also no state income tax. Car registration is pretty high, and I expect to pay about $800 to register my new 2009 C6 when it gets here.

The downside to all this is the lack of income for running our government. Right now, services at the state and town levels are being drastically reduced as money runs out, especially after a horrendous winter season with record breaking snow. That, plus runaway fuel costs, has left our roads in poor condition with little maintenance, our schools underfunded, and state aid to the towns dropping like a rock.

Things aren't looking all that good right now in tax free New Hampshire.
