Back from the NCM with our new Corvette...Pics
This week we picked up our 2008 JSB, MN6, 2LT, NPP, comp grey wheels.
Well our trip didn’t start out too good. After getting to the airport we were delayed almost 5 hours. My wife already wasn’t very thrilled about the trip and after a few beers, iPod and magazine she never complained. We finally arrived in Bowling Green at the Hampton Inn around 1:30AM. Breakfast wasn’t good, but there was a Bob Evans next door.
On the way to the museum at 10:00 for our 11:15 appointment, I was a little nervous but didn’t know why. We walked in the front door of the museum and saw our welcome sign on the plasma screens.
This was a nice touch and within a few minutes Bruce meet us and took over making sure we were treated like VIP’s. After a rough start to the trip I was hoping it would be as good as everyone here has said..but even better. Hard to explain, but everyone that can, should do this.
Next Bruce took us to see the car. On the way, people greeted us that knew our name? I asked how, and Bruce said, “Everyone knows who you are today; you posted on the corvette forum you were coming.” I thought that was cool. Then I saw the car and under the florescent lights the JSB looked amazing. I was so happy I picked the perfect color. Many color changes of blue, dark blue, purple, green, etc. To the JSB haters…I don’t care. I never lost my smile all day after this.
Then we went to the plant and again they had our names on the sign out front. It was very cool seeing everyone put the cars together and how precise everything was. Bruce showed us a lot and I learned so much I never knew about the car. Seeing all of the different body panels in the plant made me real glad I picked JSB. I then got to give birth to a black 4LT and ride in the dyno with it. Very cool. They were building some ZR1’s the next day so I missed getting to get in one. They built 85 Corvettes that day.
Then we went back to the museum and looked at the car again. They put a Happy B-Day card on it and everyone kept coming by to say congratulations and taking pictures of me and the car.
I had purchased a raffle ticket for the Pace Car they were raffling off that day, so we had to go watch that. It was pretty cool being there when they drew the name. The museum manger looked over at me when he drew the name and asked if I was from Texas. My heart skipped a beat and I could hardly say yes. He looked shocked and then asked if I was from the Woodlands. Nope, but I got to be there when they called the winner and he was excited. Good for him.
On the way back to my car, someone was driving away with their new 427 Z06. I videotaped and it was very cool. That was my wife’s favorite car and color. After she found out it was an $85k car, she liked mine just fine. After finishing our paperwork, Bruce put on the museum delivery sticker, showed us the car and gave us a tour of the museum.
I'll try post this video of the car driving out of the museum...
Then we shopped in the gift shop and my wife is now a Corvette fan and loves the Jake Skull. She got a few Jake skull shirts and two hats.
We had an awesome day and it was worth everything. After we left the museum, we drove across the street to the plant and took some pictures in front of the wall mural. This was a little after 5:00 PM and while we were taking pictures, plant workers came out to congratulate us and said they hoped we like it.
We drove to Memphis and stayed a block from Beal Street and spent the next day in Memphis. Then we drove back to Austin. After it was all said and done, my wife loved the trip and really enjoyed being a part of the experience. Now the car means something to her too. Her favorite part was watching me being excited.
